Slow Performance

I using an HP Pavilion dv5 notebook with Vista 64x. It appears to exceed all the requirements (2.5ghz centrino 2 and 4 gigs of ram). For some reason, the game runs noticably slowly when playing. For example, there are delays when clicking on menus etc... I did not have this problem with the orignal WITP and higher end games seem to run a bit better.

Does anyone know what (if anything) I should do?

Yes I have an HP computer like yours as well with the same speed and RAM. I have noticed the delay as well after clicking on buttons. However, this also happened in regular WitP. Anyone know how to fix this horrible delay. Sometimes its as long as a second or 1.5 seconds which really adds up if you think about it.

I would suggest try running it with Windowed mode.
 
Just might help with the laptop. Noticed this with few games already.

Hmm...I noticed that in windowed WitP when I scroll the graphics get all messed up...Hopefully with AE this won't happen.

What are you running at startup? msconfig, can help stop some of the unwanted resident programs.
What services are you running that you don;t need to ? There are plenty of web sites detailing what you can turn off?
Are you using Aero or other desktop configurations? Going back to classic, with ordinary icons can help.
What's on your desktop? Having a large number of files here can diminish the performance.
When was the last time you defragged? OK limited performance increase ...

I'll try all that - but how do you go to windowed mode?

It's a little strange because the game scrolls at a fast speed and the initial starting menue runs fine. It's only when cycling through base menues and clicking on battle reports that it is quite slow...

See the what'snew.pdf, basically it is using the -w switch at the end of the shortcut.

What's your graphics card, laptops don't usually have the best ? Are your dx, video and sound drivers up to date ? Do you get the same when playing a smaller scenario ?

I have a 512mb Nvidea GE Force 9600M. The driver for that card came from a 3rd party website in order to play GTA IV (a much more demanding game), which works decently on my system.

Yes. It's the same for a smaller scenario.

Sorry mate, I'm out of ideas for now... your machine is better than mine, ASUS F3 laptop, 8400M, 2GB, 2Ghz Duo, albeit with Vista 32 ... no problems except for a really small lag with the map when I'm scrolling across, but this is probably cause I'm running a lot & it's a laptop mobile graphics card...

I loaded WITP and played it for the first time since I got this computer just before. Yes, it experiences the same problem RE in-game button delays. Very strange.

There seems to be a pretty bad memory leak or something going on at the end of a turn. When I load from a save everything works fine, after hitting 'end turn' the game runs like a dog once the new turn starts ie delays when clicking a base, graphics getting redrawn slowly etc. Saving the game, exiting and then reloading makes everything smooth again. Pretty classic symptoms of a memery leak no?
