WITP is dead, long live WITP (AE)?
So is it safe to say that all of "the action" will be moving to the AE forum, or will the original WITP still get some decent traffic here? Perhaps it is too early to say, just curious.
Almost 650,000 posts here... remarkable.

I'll be here, and I'm sure that a lot of people will return to play and continue playing the more simple witp "classic"...

THIS doesn't mean I won't be playing AE.

WITP has been one of the most - if not the most successful long running game of its type I've heard of - it won't die in a day. I still play WITP and WPO and love both!!!! And I've been working on AE in every spare moment! But I actually find value in playing WITP to help me think about what AE should be. And WITP is "FUN" whereas AE is "work" !!!
[:D]
But I definitely do - and will do - both.

I will keep the classic WitP as well, I have been playing it since what 2004 or even earlier can't remember. I know roughly what WitP can and can't do....AE still has to prove itself

tocaff and i are committed to the long haul in our Battle Down Under Campaign. We have just entered April 1942 so there is plenty of fight left in WITP for both of us. Needless to say we both have an eye to AE like everyone else but in the meantime there is still unfinished business in the of WITP. SJ

and you still haven't won your graduation 1st PBEM medal yet, but looks like you are doing a fine job from what I've read...[;)] Hope I'm not sounding too patronising.[8D]

ChezDaJez and I are into June '44 in our PBEM and intend to play it out (even if it goes into 1946). However, I don't know just how much longer most of us will be hanging out on this forum (compared to the AE forum). Aside from reading Hibiki's story, that is...

I will most certainly remain here. I have no intention of getting AE until at least the first patch has been released. In the meantime there are several AARs to be followed - those combating Nemo121, the work of art that is Cap Mandrake (besides how will he cope with the Viking long boat ceremony), the cautious but comprehensive approach of wneumann, the journalistic style of cantona plus several others' etc.

Graduation.... Medal..... is that the reward for making it all the way to the end. [:D] Todd keeps reminding me that he is hurting but I take that with a big grain of salt..... he still has a mighty fleet in the wings and it will only become more powerful. But for the time being I still have the ability to turn the screws a little tighter but I suspect I will be up against that line in the sand sometime soon. Whatever the outcome I've always got the memory of hunting down Enterprise for my trophy cabinet.
No patronising detected there at all Damian. My aim is to put together a credible Japanese effort while getting to grips with this game. Every turn brings new learning experiences which hopefully I won't forget when I fire up my next PBEM - that won't be for a while though.

I think a lot of people will stay here or be in both forums, as many WitP PBEMs are still going on and probably will go on for years
I myself will stick to WitP for now, because it took me so much time getting into this, that I don't want to dive into something new right now, that needs even more "work" than WitP itself.

You know for once I agree with you, I have to argue the only 2 games that I believe been around that long with updates and live action was counterstrike and WiTP.
I believe counterstrike only stuck around due to the popularity over time, however its biggest draw back was cheating.
Jwilkerson AE and WITP are technically both work, and I get paid to play both... While at work and nothings going on I tend to crack open my laptop and check out my turns, while I am still at work getting paid to play..

You'll see exactly what happened with UV. People will stick around for a long time, and newcomers will join, but if AE proves succesful, as did WitP, people will shift over there and gradually WitP will become "the few, the proud, the remnant." I was one of the die-hard UV folks and it was kind of painful to see everybody flock to WitP. Eventually I gave up and went that way too (and I was most glad that I did!).

I'm in both, for a few reasons; first, to finish out current PBEMs, but also because I want to wait for a patch or two before committing long-term to an AE PBEM. The nastiest problems should come out in the first month or so as everyone beats on the AE engine, in the meantime I plan to spar the AI to get my brain around the changes in logistics, which are massive.
I foresee though leaving WITP for the new girl in a few months

RE: WITP is dead, long live WITP (AE)?
As I write this, 5 people are looking at the WITP. I can't count those looking at AE, but it's a HUGE list.
RE: WITP is dead, long live WITP (AE)?
I'll be continuing my 2 WITP PBEMs for as long as it takes to taste victory or the agony of defeat. In 1 I'm in 8/42 as the Japanese and have soom looming setbacks to deal with. The other game is against Steve (SJ) and we've just entered 4/42. I'm especially enjoying doing the AAR, though some good news for the Allies would be nice. I got AE on the release day and am now finally going to get some time to tinker with it. WITP with some additional patches will keep things going.

I never thought that doing an AAR would be so time consuming and difficult.
