Japs intimidated ?

Post by Lützow »

Actually playing Guadalcanal for like 2 weeks. Seized Lunga, Tulagi, reinforced Port Moresby, Milne Bay and for all the time I didn't encounter a Japanese TF, not even a single SS. Are they scared to show up ? [;)]

I just started a Guadalcanal as Allies vs. the AI (my vow survives at the moment)! I'm still having trouble getting TFs to follow and go somewhere as ordered (see previous reference in my little Coral Sea scenario AAR), so one amphibious TF neared Lunga, got jumped by a bunch of Bettys, still got 28 Wildcats via LRCAP (whistled up by the computer - I hadn't set them to LRCAP because all the TFs were SUPPOSED to be in the same hex) and two APs took torps. But other than some LBA, no sign yet of Jap ships.

They are there, I had about 5 carrier battles and several surface engagements after capturing Lunga and Tulagi. CV Wasp went down and CV Hornet had to stay in Sydney for a while, but 2 IJN CVs and 2 CVLs sunk too, so very happy.

I had a series of battles take place starting on Aug 20. Several Bombardment runs snuck in (through my sub line and Cat screen and under my CV's Scouts, and into my 3 CV task forces[X(], who thankfully evaded surface combat[8D]).

On the 20th and 21st, I had my carriers scattered (back to back nights with 2 different Jap TF[8|]) but they obliterated the "Mutsu" and some CA's. The Jap Cv's snuck in on the 22nd and jumped me. Enterprise is bad off (but now safe in Nomea) Landed two $1000 bombs on "Akagi" class called the Zuikaku. (One apparently bounced off and the other caused a tiny amount of smoke).

Was dealing with Betties during whole time and lost a pair of APs and a DD. It was the best experiance that I've had with an AI in some time!

Love the AI and the Fog of war is fantastic! Thanks again matrix and Henderson Field (which is operational[:)])

Now save the game and load it up as the opposing side. You will be amazed how wildly inaccurate the sunk and damage reports are. Probibilty is that your two hits on the Japanese carrier really did some significant damage.

My combat reports have the wrong ships sunk and list a whole lot more ships sunk than I actually have sunk. I suppose as time goes by and intellegence grows the sunk reports become more accurate. So totally cool!

guadalcanal japanese ai is very aggressive
but ....
parking ships at woodlark is a unexplainable event
running single cv tf against known position of 3 US cv is wrong as after 1 won cv battle most japanese sunk cv were these weird single cvl ones ....
running CA into cv range when they hang around for long is too aggressive
also too little troops are moved from truk to rabaul //i captured it in late Nov 42//
stopped playing at that moment as japanese side had little left //besides BB force //
