Why such a difference to Canadian consumers

Post by darrenl »

I must say I'm extremely tempted on getting this. I really liked UV...the depth was perfect.

However, I'm looking at the prices and with the Canadian dollar at about $0.91 US (..ish...) I'm wondering why there is a $20 difference physical and shipment and a $10 difference for just the digital download. Are we being hit by duties that badly?

...keep up the great work Matrix. [&o]

Cheers.

The Physical shipment is actually $10 more than download, but matrix charges another $10.85 for shipping.

I agree

This is almost as expensive as when I bought the original and the dollar was only in the low 80s then.

The current price is 100.99$, then I get my 20$ off. That means it will be 89.99$

However the US price is 69.99$ after discount. Which means its 20$ more for a Canuck to buy and we still pay extra for shipping.

Just a little math here. The mark up to Canadian dollars is 28.5%, but the official exchange rate is 1.09 (9cents on the dollar).

I know Erik you have said before that this is reviewed from time to time as the rates fluctuate. But it is currently way out.

Hope you can readjust the price before the 20$ off sale is over.

Hmm. That sounds like some "fuzzy math" to me. [:D]

OMG..what a daft

You are absolutley right. It only 80.99$ this way...not so bad its only 15.7% premium that way. Still a bit over...but not what I claimed earlier.

Matrix I humbly apologize

Oh well.

I live in Europe but DL the game from the US section becoause it was about 20% cheaper there [X(][8|][8|][8|][8|][8|]

It is a bit silly that you can get a big discount on your download by selecting a different country as your location [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

Lol Vyper...

I didn't do any of the math cause I was enjoying a nice glass of wine at the time [:D]

Regarding the purchase, I'm going to put it on hold for now. The dollar is supposed to get close to par and I'm hoping the US and CAN prices get a bit closer together.

Why is this thread in the "War Room" sub-forum? I'll reply and then move it out.

We set the prices based on the exact exchange rate when WITP AE was released. If you're not seeing a close match (1-2% or so) then it may be a typo in the store. I'll re-check the Canadian pricing today.

well if you factor in shipping it's always going to be more expensive when shipping from USA to Canada... and this is not counting the duty fee you might get with the post. they always manage to get that 15% some way or another! [:(]

Ok, I'm looking at our store now. The Download price is $79.99 US and the Physical price is $89.99 US. Conversion rates have changed a bit this week, so I'm using today's conversion rates rather than Monday's (when we set the prices).

$1 US = $1.0823 Canadian
$79.99 US = $86.99 Canadian (current store price is $89.99)
$89.99 US = $97.99 Canadian (current store price is $100.99)

It looks like the store prices are about 3% off today's conversion rates. I don't know if that's the change from Monday alone or if something was off when we set Monday's prices, but 3% is within the margin of possibility. I certainly don't see anything like us overcharging Canadians by $20 or 28.5% as claimed earlier in this thread. If I'm missing something here, please give me more information and I'll check it out. Right now it looks like things are correct.

I saved A$4.00 by paying with PayPal in US$ rather than paying DR directly with Aussie$ (compared 15 minutes apart) despite Paypal using an exchange rate 2% lower than the current market rate (0.8067 instead of market 0.8267). DR posted the same prices as above for US$ but the discrepancies seem to kick in when you convert to your local currency.

DR obviously have a different margin on their currency exchanges. As my order took a few days to get sorted, I also noted the DR rates were updated at least daily.

Moral, pay in US$ and use your Bank/PayPal exchange rate I suppose.

P.S. Using Australian (UK) store.
Cheers,
Reg.

Hey Erik...thanks for the response. Looks like you're on top of it.

...and I said "to heck with it" and purchased it last night. Had a great time with the Coral Sea last night and I'm very happy with it.

Cheers,
Darren
