I can't get through more than a couple of turns without CTD.

I ran dxdiag and no problems were found.

Is there anything that I can provide to help find a fix?

I have seen this happen a few times but when I reloaded from the autosave it often continued without the error. I suspect it did not gen up the troublesome naval battle the second time. You might try the autosave again and see if it works for you.

yes, if we have save folder we can check exactly where the game hangs and then maybe figure out why

Everything is fine with my version of ToW, so either we already fixed this bug and patch will help, or I'm very lucky Later I will check your save with version you guys have, now I am unable to do this. Maybe someone else can check this save (play few turns) and confirm CTD?

Absolutely no problem here either. That is, I experienced CTD when I gave a savegame a name includning this / . I had played for 4 hours and nothing was saved. A bug?
I would suggest an autosave function every 3 turns or something.

From what I have seen of a problem which resembles this one, the issue has to do with a naval combat generated by the engine. If a naval combat of "this" type is generated the problem occurs, but it the "random generator" does not gen the same combat all is well. Thus I would expect this to be a hard bug to track. Perhaps deeper tracking of just what combat is being generated, and resolved?

If the seed for the prng, the one used to gen the next pseudo random number was saved in the autosave file, then, perhaps it would be possible to restore the state of the prn generator, and we could have reproducibility on demand. This could be an option, perhaps.

It happened twice while playing the Overlord scenario as the Allies after the 1.5 Hotfix was installed.

Never happened during my half dozen Overlord and Fall Weiss games prior to the 1.5 Hotfix.

I loaded up the AutoSave and continued play with no CTD.
