How do you upgrade ships?

Post by RyanCrierie »

It's now 1/1942 in my vs AI game, and the USS Colorado is sitting in Seattle; and the game shows she can be upgraded to have radar -- but HOW do I enable the upgrade?

Seattle has 200 x repair yard capacity, and I'm puzzling over this.

On the main ship screen is an Update Yes or No indicator. Yes-a-fy it, then make sure Colorado is in a port with at least a level 10 shipyard (see the Minimum Shipyard Size in the lower right corner).

The manual says:

"Shipyard Size: is the minimum Repair Shipyard size necessary to effect the upgrade/ conversion. When this value is "0", upgrades/conversions can be made at Ports with a sufficient "ability" rating, as explained in the Port Section, below. "

Seattle has 200 repair shipyards yet I can't enable the upgrade.

Okay figured it out. There's no button to enable repair. You have to set it to say "UPGRADE ALLOWED", and then hit the end turn button. At the next turn, the ship will be in the yard undergoing upgrade.

That should have been quite obvious..Upgrade allowed: Yes/No. Repair is not Upgrade, you know. But don't feel bad, these things we all wonder for months sometimes. Me included. [8D]
