Plane upgrades - error/bug?

Ok the way I understood from pre-release posts was that the way plane upgrades work is that when you upgrade the game no longer puts the old planes in the pool but rather replaces those planes with the upgrade type in the pool.

Seems to be broken, in more ways than 1:

Situation -
1) All sections of the B17-D that can be rescused from the philipines are sitting in Chunking. Thats 2 sections with 8 planes and the HQ with 2.
2) There are 9 B17-E in the pool.
3) I upgrade one section going from B17-D upgrades to B17-E, everythig goes ok.
4) Now there should still be 9 B17-E in the pool right? Wrong, there is one. It doesnt even add them to the pool as B17-Ds, they just vanish.
5) But there is another problem, the second sqdn with 8 D's if you look at the info has now got the "upgrade now" option highlighted even though there is only one E in the pool. (it's not supposed to be active unless there are enough planes to complete the upgrade). And if you click the 'upgrade now' button it removes 8 D's and just gives you the one E (and THOSE 8 D's also vanish).

Something pretty messed up with the situation there no? Part of the game seems to think it has added the planes to the pool, while another part doesnt accept the new planes are there.

I'm not sure about the Upgrade Now thing.  I don't believe it should be active if you have less than enough planes in the pool.

Don't fret about the vanished B-17Ds, they are in a delay space and will become available within the next few days.  After running the turn, look in the ops report.  Near the bottom is the status of planes that were stood down during upgrades.  Some planes randomly work their way back into the pool over several turns.  It should take about 3-4 days for all 16 to be back in the pool.

Yes, I just re-read the manual ..silly me
 
Says it can take 7 days for the old planes to work there way back into the pool, and also says you can manualy force an upgrade if just 1 plane exists in the pool ... lol, I was wrong on both accounts.
 
Taking a while for all the new info to sink in I think ;p
