Neat start, I wonder why you chose to go that far Northeast ? It seems like that has skewed the map away from the peninsular land, was there some fighting up there ?
History began July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake.

Jeffrey. Thanks. I am using the map from the Victory games boardgame the Korean War. Here below you can see it.

Actually yes, the UNC offensive after Inchon reached the Chinese border in certain areas. Most of North Korea was captured by the UN forces when the Chinese intervened. So the northern territories are essential. I think there was heavy fighting close to one of the reservoirs in the north for example.

By the way. There wouldnt be anyone that have the rulebook/scenariobook for the Victory games "the korean war"? Bought a book about the war for something like 35$. It turned out there wasnt even a descent OOB or a description of the equipment used. It was 95% a description of the diplomacy surrounding the war. Waste of money.

Start of the scenario.

The army of the Peoples Democratic Republic of Korea massed on the border ready to invade. (screenshot)

On the 25th of june 1950 the PDRK army consisted of 10 well equipped infantry division and 1 armoured brigade. Several of the divisions were veterans from the chinese civil war. Army strenght was around 130 000 men. the north koreans also had some 180 airplanes.

The ROK army also consisted of 10 infantry division but with no significant armour. Also divisions were ill trained and badly equipped. In the whole of the ROK army there were only 3 artillery battalions. Total army strenght 100 000 men. No airforce. US forces in Korea totalled 500 men (Korean Military Assistance Group).

The scenario will be on regimental/battalion level with Corps lvl HQs.

A typical PDRK corps could look like this (there are five of them)

HQ troops
3 inf reg & 1 auxilliary unit with artillery and engineers (III Division)
3 inf reg & 1 auxilliary unit with artillery and engineers (IV Division)

Been working a lot on this scenario lately.

The difficulty with this scenario is to at least try and simulate the ebb & flow of the war. Basicly the mobile part of the war went like this.

june-august 1950 - North Korean invasion drives ROK & US troops down to Pusan corner
september - Inchon invasion and UN troops drive out of the Pusan strognhold.
october - UN invades north korea. China starts to move troops into north korea
november - Chinese full counteroffensive. UN troops driven back
januari 1951- China invades south korea takes seul
february - front stabilized. Failed chinese offensives
march - UN offensive takes back Seul.
april - june - Slow UN advances. Chinese spring offensives fail.

So basicly there is a huge amount of back and forth offensives. It will be diffuclt to simulate.

Also there is the difference in forces. China had excellent infiltration tactics and lots of infanty. UN forces had superior airforce, naval dominance and better equipment.

So far the scale is 1SFT=50-100 men/10 tanks/airplanes etc. Every round 5 days. That would make an june-june campaign 72 rounds long.

So far the scenario includes

Historical OOB (down on regimental level)
Historical reinforcement list

KPA initial surprise event
Weather and seasons
US gears up for war
China gears up for war
Aggressive north korean AI

Screenshot shows the situation on the 30th of June (start of the 2nd round of the game). The KPA forces have captured Seul. Shattered remains are left of the ROK army. So far the AI is acting quite good. X marks the original 38th parallell border

I am amazed by your productivity Grymme! Absolutely impressive! Keep it up (and a hint to Vic - Include some of Grymme's and others excellent scenarios in the stock game = Good for sales and game image).

The basic version of this scenario is more or less ready. I am looking for ideas for special sfts, rules events etc. The war took place 1950-51, so there werent so much changes from the war. Helicopters were used, but mostly for ambulance duties.

Thinking of including a 4077th MASH unit, just for fun :)

Will soon be looking for a couple of playtesters for this one. Especially such willing to write AARs.

Any suggestions/volunteers appreciated.

One of my favorite scenarios and my first computer wargame Conflict Korea by Norm Kroger played it many times great to see it on AT will read with interest keep it up Ian
The battle of Medjerda is almost forgotten, but was fought against highly disciplined German troops and blasted a route straight to Tunis it was a perfect infiltration battle and should be remembered as the best fought British battle of the war.

Remember playing that game too. Was fun even though I wasn't experienced enough to really know what I was doing.

What happened to SSI? I always looked for similar games once I had a pc, but could never find them. Glad I stumbled over Matrix Games.

@Grymme:

Might want to have a go at your Korean version of AT.
Keep up the good work.

Bwheatly & Exil: I will be back at home on wednesday. Id be happy if you would playtest against each other. Maybe one game playing each side. Since i will not be in the game any feedback would be very helpfull. And an AAR common/separate if possible (doesnt need to go beond the first 10 rounds if its too boring). Doesnt need to be horrible ambitious, just something to showcase the scenario. Also that you dont distribute the scenario further. If you can accept those terms you are in.

Untill then any ideas about special SFTs, events etc would be appreciated.
