Master Suggestion Thread

From the front lines in France and Russia to the deserts of North Africa and the airfields and convoys of Britain, the campaigns of World War II are yours to command in WW2: Time of Wrath! This turn-based grand strategy title, the highly improved and expanded sequel to WW2: Road to Victory, puts the player in charge of the political, economic and military decisions of one or more Axis or Allied nations, including minor nations.

Master Suggestion Thread

Post by swatter555 »

I suggest we start a master suggestion thread. Lets keep the suggestions short and sweet and avoid writing mini-novels.

I will start:

-Production times for units.

-Special units that have higher strength caps and more movement points than a normal unit (German SS Panzer, Soviet Gaurd, ect.)

-Have the AI use more corps. I see too many divisions facing my panzer corps, they simply get crushed.

-Produced units can only appear in home cities.

-Strategic movement cost scales according to distance.

more information given in ALL popups (events, air strikes, seazone strikes, etc). If the game system knows about it, it should report it.

Was about to start a thread like this myself....

First of all, there needs to be some kind of overrun rule. I understand that divisions can be used to slow down an enemy offensive, but in russia I'm getting hung up by divisions with a strength of 0.6, and my Panzer corps of 13+ SP have to attack several times to destroy it. Something like, if the odds are more than 10:1 and the attacking unit is a mech or armored unit, damage is done to the defender, but none to the attacker and the action costs no action points. Odds of 15:1 or more, the defending unit is destroyed, again the attacker uses no action points.

When the partisan event comes up, it would be handy to have shaded on the map the region in question. When I was getting partisans in Poland it wasn't a big deal, but I just got the event in Russia and I took an effectiveness hit in the "smolensk region."

There should be a screen at the beginning of the turn for each alliance to conduct alliance business. For example, I think diplomatic points should be shared and used by each alliance, instead of Germany and Italy both being a couple of DP short of being able to do something. Perhaps this could also be done with amphibious points as well.

The ability to send a limited number of PPs to an ally, i.e. Germany sends 10 PP to Romania.

That's all I can think of for the moment

I see what you are saying, and I feel for you (believe me), but without the divisions to hang me up I could be in Moscow in two months. At least for the AI, these fodder units give them a chance. It is very annoying without a doubt though. I am very torn on the issue.

I was thinking about starting a thread for event additions and modifications.

One other poster talked about having German decisions on Gibraltar, Malta, and Egypt as part of a surrender demand to the UK. I like that idea, and think the choices should impact chance of acceptance by the UK. If you insist on taking away everything, the Brits may decide they have nothing to lose by fighting on!

I would also like to see certain hex losses that impact morale also give the other side a DP boost. If the Allies are taking over Germany, there should be a "bandwagon effect", and ditto for the other side if the Suez and Gibraltar fall to the Axis. Espcially, if London falls, the Allies are in trouble and diplomacy in Europe would reflect this.

I will have to check to see if the Ruhr is an area that has a German morale hit for loss, since it should. If not, this should be added.

From a quick look, there appears to be no "Japan attacks UK/French Empire". This should be an alternative to Pearl Harbor, with a lesser chance of US entry into the European war, while hitting the UK overseas production. There should be a choice of UK response "send Indian / Australian troops home" or "keep them here", with a greater production hit for keeping them. Historically, many of the Aussies were kept in North Africa, somewhat to the dismay of the Australian government. In fact, maybe a lesser version of this response decision should be added to the Pearl Harbor event.

I also don't recall a "Japan attacks USSR" event. The Imperial Japanese Army in the 1930s and 1940s regarded the USSR as the main event and the Pacific as a sideshow. Of course, the IJ Navy had opposite priorities, and won the argument, especially after the oil embargo and the whupping dished out by Zhukov in a "border incident". However, it was not a sure thing that they would. Especially, if the US chooses not to impose the oil embargo (I think there is a small chance of this), an attack on the USSR would be a possibility.

Any comments or other event ideas?

In the reports area I would like to be able to bring up my countries total armed forces, something like you seen when you first pick your country. As the game goes on and I purchase more and more units I would like to see exactly what I have.

I would like to see total number of inf divisions, mech, armor and so on. Maybe even have a report of the supposed strength of various countries in those areas as well. I'm sure Germany had an idea, right or wrong how many Soviet Divisions they might face in the Western Soviet Union.

Thanks!

This is a short list which comes to my mind after testing this quite good game.

* The game should clearly show out which unit is airunits target while intercepting and while
a player does them itself, engine should show out which airunit is giving it! A player should
have an option to SKIP low air unit if there are full one standing and waiting bombing mission.

* There should be some naval cap at different seazones to prevent a huge killer armadas farming
small AI fleets. Current system doesn't offer challenge against AI at all. For example bigger fleet =
weaker fleet efficiency (organisation problems). In ww2 there was no big fleet fights in the European
theatre.

* A real Third Reich national flag (yeah nazi one). Current flag is a joke. It's a game for god sake, which
tryes to simulate HISTORICAL things. This is easy to fix by a itself though.

* Somehow the game freezes computer if trying to make anything else at the same time while the game runs in
other window. Makes me wonder if this game is coded by some visual basic :) This needs a fix.

* Finland needs commanders (Mannerheim(7), Heinrichs(4), Talvela(4) etc.) like ppl recommends in other thread. Finland
played bigger role in the ww2 than many other minor countries in the Europe.

* Currently there is way too much rains all over. There should be an option to modify the game weather scale effect.

* Paratroopers are out of balance. They have way too big range. I would like to half it. AI can't handle such things at all.
In player vs. player games they also mess things out. Doesn't make sense that for example Germans can surround Paris
with paratroopers from the other side of the Europe. Aircap somehow doesn't work correctly with these.

* When loading a saved game after START GAME -> Load Game button doesn't do anything. Have to select ok, which opens
halted screen with options which are not allowed to modify, so why show this at all? Why not simply load the game directly?

* When conquering France for example there should be clear information what are requirements for making them raising
a white flag. In case of France a players has to look at code which is not the best way. (nantes should be taken out of req. list).

* BUG: Airforces has different moving points than "a green painted area around it". This means that rebasing airplanes
is difficult when "estimated" range is different than actual one. Have to re-click 4-6 times before finding actual max range.
"An nescis, mi fili, quantilla prudentia mundus regatur?"

"Do you not know, my son, with how little wisdom the world is governed?"

I haven't experienced what you are describing, but there is a small bug here that may be responsible for what you are seeing.

I you click on strat move, then click on the small map to jump to the destination, then click on the green hex, it may fail.

However, if you perform the same move by scrolling only on the big map to the destination it seems to always work.

I am almost positive the problem here is that when you zoom far out, your pointer is not always choosing the hex it seems to be most closely pointing too. So if your trying to rebase to max range, sometimes your picking the hex 1 to far and that won't work. I know sometimes when I do this I will end up with my plane in a different hex than I intended, so I have taken to zooming an a lil closer when I am ready to lay down my air units.

The small map does not "interrupt" the selection when doing a strat move, but on almost every other action it seems to lose the function attempted.

Chuck

Mike, I see you mention that it does happen on a strat move. I may be wrong, but I thought that was the one it does work on. In any case it surely interrupts on some pointing functions.

Yes, this is a legal issue facing the good folks at Wastelands. I totally understand why they chose to publish the game with alternative German insignia.

By the way, I agree that this game is quite good. I am an "Old Guard" wargamer beginning in 1973. I like the way that this game is a blend of both old and new ideas concerning what a computer wargame should be.

Still this isn't a reason for inflicting German law to the world (no historical pun intended !). It's eeeeaaasy to make a German version and let the RotW play historical flags...
This is crazy, why not also abide to Sudanese or Burma law as well ?

You are right. The problem occurs only with a minimap and moving screen that way. Rolling screen normally works fine. But i belive
that things should work in both ways.

FWIW, the work-around is to change the order you click for a strat move.

If you select the unit, click the mini-map, then click the strat move, the move will work with no problems. [:)]

Matrix is selling games in Germany, so we don't want that anybody will have any problems with the sfastika.
If the Burma will become one of the most important gaming markets I'm sure we will try to follow their rights too.

Anyway RotW has got the possiibility to download historical flag and enjoy the game much more. We know how the original Third Reich flag looks like.

Hi all, this is the kind of game I've been looking for, (more than beer and pretzels but not too much micro management,I've got witp for that.)

this game is fun now, but I believe it could be something special with a patch or two.Plenty of good sugestions here but the first two entries of this thread really nailed it for me.(swatter555 and gwgardner) I can't agree more!

-Production times for units. (if not a long wait, perhaps cadre units that need time or double pp reinforcements)

-Special units that have higher strength caps and more movement points than a normal unit (German SS Panzer, Soviet Gaurd, ect.) (Great Idea!)

-Produced units can only appear in home cities. (a must imho)

-Strategic movement cost scales according to distance. (once again great idea!)

-and pop-up info. (yeah-I usually don't know whats going on---just ask my wife lol) thanks!

I like a lot of these ideas

-I think it was HardSarge who mentioned about ranges for the air armies and strategic bombers tied to tech level. I second that motion!

-I also like all of Jack54's ideas above!

thanks jfalk68 but the credit goes to swatter555 and gwgardner (post 1 and 2) it was their ideas, I'm just agreeing.

It's great to see that there are some popular opinions about the direction this game could go!
