I have had Kinko's print things for me up to 24" wide, but I gather they can go to 60" wide (depending on what kind of paper/finish you want). They can go to any practical length using a roll.

For decent quality photo paper it is about $8/square foot.  So if you make that map 24" wide it will be about 2.5 feet long, and about $40. That is about the largets I could handle.

I have clear plastic panels I can lay over the map to write on with washable felt tip pens.

One can also crop the image and print out smaller maps of Guad, the PI, Malaysia etc.

Thanks for the site Mike, I will probably order a 3'x3' poster of the planning map from them. It is much more reasonable than kinko's

Wow - big map...

It would be nice if the blue ocean could be represented as white. Otherwise its gonna cost a fortune to print out.

Ok You can do that in Photoshop with a couple of clicks with the substitute color command (I did it).

I just ordered a 4' x 5' full color poster standard map from http://www.mycolorcopies.com/ .  The cost was $80 plus $15 for Fed Ex shipping.  Even at this size the diameter of a single hex is only .25 inch!  This size may still be too small for conveniently reading names and details!  I printed and laminated a similar hex size WITP map previously.  It was 33" w by 31" high with .25" hex diameters.  Before printing and laminating the original WITP map, I printed the hex numbers in small size gray color along the map edges and at several open ocean and land areas around the map for easy searches of locations.  The AE map is so much bigger that adding some hex numbering to wall maps may be helpful.  If I had more display wall area I would have been tempted to go 5' x 7' in wall map size.  Rediculous as it sounds, we may be in the situation where a separate map projection program on another computer may be useful to find game locations by hex numbers and to view other portions of the map.  It could also be made useful for calculating distances.

After you login, on the right hand side there are a number of menu links, one of them is "Register Game", just click on that link and the rest is self explanatory.

Back to the map - is there an optimum size to print the planning map or is it a matter of what you get done or afford at a commercial printer? I am not sure how the size and resolution of the jpg translates into printing. I assume there is a minimum size if you want all the names etc to be legible.

I got the map printed and laminated on A1 paper today at Staples. Looks good on the wall but still too small to use for detailed planning- I would reckon you would need 4 sheets of a1 - lets see thats about 6 ft by 4ft.................

Played around with on paint shop pro and found the "smallest" size that I could read was about 60-65% of original or ~7' x 5'

I just found a nice tool to split the image in several smaller images to print them afterwards.

Take a look:

When you double click the game icon, after installation, the screen you see has a Register to click and do so.

I have to say the map looks really nice printed and laminated at 5' by 6'. I had to get the blue ocean hexes toned down so I could write on it.

For those who wish to put away a large map after use - I purchase a large window shade kit at Walmarts. These are about 6' X 6' before being cut down (adjustable in width) and cost about $30 plus minor hardware cost. I mount to the top of wall or edge of ceiling with a valence to hide the roll when not in use. Mine is right above my computer. Obviously you can pull the map down as far as desired. Laminating may make the map too stiff to conveniently roll up, since I use clear package tape to fasten the map to the face of the heavy vinyl shade surface. Another advantage is being able to substitute a different window shade of the same width (a different game map) onto the fixed fasteners. Different maps are rolled up within their own vinyl window shade and store well for later use. Works for me and is neat looking, adjustable and relatively cheap. I agree that my 4' x 5' wall map is still too small!
