AE Troop loading

Post by hbrsvl »

Hi-I'm having a problem with this. Sometimes load goes OK, sometimes not.

Example-12/15/41, Tacoma, US 41st Inf.Div. has following costs:
1. Troop load cost 8151
2. Cargo load cost 23533
3. Total cost 31684.

I have no AP types at Tacoma nor Seattle. So I formed a Transport TF of 9 xAKs and sent them to Tacoma. Total over 40K load points.

When I try to load this TF, I'm told TF has no troop load capacity, only cargo. When I hit "check for fit", it went RED.

Dos this mean I can't load troops on AK type ships? Doe AE have a provision like WITP where you could take a LCUs troop load cost, multiply by 5 to get load cost in AK points?

I'm trying to learn. Thanks, Hugh Browne

Yep, you need a combination of troop and cargo capacity.
Allies have a bunch of AK's laying around that can convert to xAP's.
Scrounge them up, takes around 3 weeks for the conversion.

In the lower right is a button called Verify Load. Push it.

Halsey-Just to make sure I have this right, in the case of the 41st Div., in the same TF, I should have AP types of over 8200 plus AK types of over 24000? I do understand some AP types load some cargo in addition to troops. But would need AK types to make up remainder of cargo pts needed?

Thanks, HB

Don,
Along this same line of inquiry, I've got the 161st Infantry Regiment in San Francisco and want to transport it to Pearl Harbor. I have 2 xAP's with 5000 troop load capacity and a xAK totallying 9000 crago load capacity - more than enough to carry the unit. However, when I select the "Load Troops" button on the TF screen, only air units appear. The TF type is Transport. I can get it to work right if I change to "Amphibious", but shouldn't the Transport TF work as well? What might I be doing wrong? Thanks.

I have had to use aphib v. transport as well
I have also had a problem when I pick up a regiment with APs with more than enough troop and cargo capacity. The screen says yes and it verifies ok, yet the unit will not load completely. Invariably, I have to attach an additional ship to complete the load despite the fact that the original ships are at 80% capacity.

You need to be in Strategic Move Mode to commercial load onto a Transport TF. Strat. Mode represents the units equipment being broken down and palletized and packed for shipping. The manual has some very detailed discussions of this.

To load onto an Amphib TF you need to be in Combat Mode. Combat Mode the unit has all of its equipment deployed for use...and uses more storage space.

Amphib TF only use 80% of the ships capacity to load units. Units have to be in Combat Mode to be loaded onto an Amphib TF. Combat Mode represents the units equipment being deployed and ready for immediate use...and hence requires more shipping space than a unit which has had its equipment broken down, palletized and packed for shipping....as represented by Strategic move mode and its use by Transport TF.

Thanks Treespider, [;)]
I appreciate the info. I must have missed the section in the manual. I'll look to re-read. Lots of changes in AE, but am having a blast! [:D] Thanks for your work on AE.
