Start line shifts

Post by Bernie »

Okay, setting up a PBEM meeting engagement using Wild Bill's Pacific-villages map, something I've done before. However, this time I'm running into the problem of the start lines both ending up on the very left edge of the map, making deployment impossible for players. Anyone have a clue to offer? I can send a zip of the setup if anyone wants to look at it.
What, me worry?

This can be a tricky and frustrating thing to deal with.
You'll most likely need to go to the map editor and reset the start lines.

Nations and years involved can affect how SPWAW handles a custom map in a generated battle.

It would be good to set the scenario editor to the type battle, date, etc before loading the map in the map editor.

Then set the start lines and if necesary, the retreat/reinforcement hexes.

If necessary re-do the victory hexes.

Save the map and be sure to generate the battle so it matches the data you provided SPWAW while editing.

Check the start lines, victory hexes, and retreat/reinforcement hexes during deploy. If your retreat/reinforce hexes are on your side of the map and everything looks ok, the battle should work.

I hope this helps a bit.

Tricky and frustrating for sure! Took me awhile, but I finally got it to a playable condition. Had the darndest time with it swapping sides for no reason. Three times I generated the battle and twice my forces were on the left, and once the enemy on the left, but each time the reinforcement hexes were on the wrong sides. I also had problems with the retreat hexes and reinforcement hexes not staying in their mapped positions, moving all over the sides. Anyway, I got it now and the battle is generated.

I am happy that you solved the problem.

The side-swapping really messes things up.

Have fun!

Bernie,
Maybe something to check: did you select 'custom map, as designed' or 'custom map, random starts/VHs'?

Hmmm... That's something I hadn't considered; in fact I'd completely forgotten about that setting. Thanks for reminding me!
