Naval Bombardment Animation Broken?
All of my animations work fine now with the fix except for naval bombardment and air bombardment. Even if I put it on the lowest setting it still takes FOREVER. It even still plays if I put it on 0. What gives? [:(]

Assuming you're running this with the v1.080 hotfix, please post a DxDiag in the Tech Support forum and let us know what command line switches you are using, if any.

RE: Naval Bombardment Animation Broken?
There are instructions in the Tech Support forum for how to post a DxDiag. I'll move this thread there.
Thanks for the switch info. When you say it takes forever, is it just that it's a long animation or are you seeing some kind of glitches going on with it? Can you just hit escape?

DxDiag attached. I believe there are glitches going on because I when I hit escape it takes forever to close. I try to hit escape every time because the animations take forever. It just kind of sits there and waits...

Your sound driver (for the Realtek AC97 Audio) is from 2003, please update that ASAP. Please also update your video driver if a newer one is available. Your video card (SAPPHIRE RADEON 9600 ATLANTIS)is not actually fully compatible with DirectX 9 so while it seems to be working there's not much we can do if a driver update doesn't resolve the issue.
Were you seeing this with the original release version as well or only since you installed the hotfix?

Sorry Im not very tech savy but how do I update these? I was seeing this with the original release and the hotfix seems to have fixed all the animations except for the naval bombardment for some reason...

Ok, one way is to check with your system manufacturer, another is to use Windows Update, but they are often out of date too.
For your video card:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/w ... ng=English
For your audio card, check Windows Update and your manufacturer first. If no luck there, try this:

Darn it the updating did not work. I wonder why it will not turn off when I set it to 0? I like watching the other animations so I hate to turn off all [:(]

RE: Naval Bombardment Animation Broken?
I haven't enabled the '0' delay on any animations apart from the AIR ones.
The others are planned, but they work slightly differently to AIR and I need to work out how to do so without breaking them.
I can't explain why just the Naval Bombardment animation is slow, but maybe when I get '0' delay working it wont be a problem.
A note:
If playing PBEM with animations and you turn the delay down to '0', this will not suppress the animations. During testing, we found that if one player viewed animations and the other turned them 'off', then there was a high possibility of the sync bug arising.
The game will force the animations on (at minimum setting) if the Japanese player has enabled animations.

Well Ive been trying all the new switches after the beta patch but to no avail. I guess cause Im using a single core. The only animations that freeze up on me are the air bombardment and naval bombardment ones. Maybe something to do with the bombardment explosions. [&:] Hopefully you guys can fix these to be set optionally to 0 at some point. Ive updated everything and have attached my new DxDiag. It is so wierd because I never had this problem with WITP! Thanks for any and all continued help on this!

RE: Naval Bombardment Animation Broken?
I play most of the time with '0' delay to speed up turns on my slowing down laptop...it has been developing AE for several years. It started as a 2GHz laptop and is now down to only 700MHz....
Try setting the delay to .1 and see if it makes a difference.
From what I have seen there seems to be more explosions happening lately which is affecting the sound delay.

Please try the new public beta and the different performance switches documented in the readme there.

try renaming your SOUND folder to NOSOUND and see if the freeze ups continue. I am wondering if the click sound is not working well with the codexs you have installed.

Ok WOW I just tried this and it fixed all my problems with bombardment animations freezing up. The animations were super fast! Can you take a look at my diax and offer any recommendations now that I know that sound is the culprit?

Which codec packs do you think were causing the issue, any idea?

Not sure I was using the Kazaa Lite codec pack which is a bundle of tons of them...
