How am I travelling so far?

Post by fcam1387 »

It's late Jan 1942 and I'm playing as the Japanese. I've noticed stiff Allied resistance throughout and I've taken significant merchant shipping losses (around 90 ships) because their forces have a habit of interdicting my invasion convoys and I put together an incompetent invasion of Borneo - I plan on blitzing the rest of the SRA after Singapore and / or the Phillipines are captured.

I've noticed it's going to be a significant strain on my resources to re-maneuver my troops after the Phillipines and Singapore have been captured - possibly requiring me to put a temporary halt on resource / oil acquisition.

I'm wondering whether you guys think my losses are too high to sustain in the medium term, they are fairly standard, or whether the blows I've dealt to Allied shipping are enough to give me some breathing space for the time being?

Thanks.

Honestly, I'm still feeling my way with this new mothership, but it does seem like fairly high shipping losses this early, even it they are only transports. You'll lose them eventually, so you might as well take it on the chin until you get the SRA ...

Oil and Res will last for a few more months at least , but without economic data [&:]... and without knowing what ships have sunk and you have sunk ... [&:]

I'm still getting used to the new world order. In WitP Japan had plenty of shipping to go around, now that is not the case.

General observations would be that transports need escorts to minimize loss.

Early expansion trumps resource transport in the beginning.

After consolidation of the SRA I predict ASW will be a priority for Japan, my plans (untested) are to initiate a robust convoy system, train second line bombers in ASW, Identify and target allied bases resupplying submarines using KB.

This is all untested theory so good luck in your campaign.[:)]

I too am still trying to assess this but I think a key question is how long you plan to play the current game? My guess is that the losses so far are OK if you're only going so far, but would be unacceptable if you wanted to go to 44-45
