Any patches/update still coming?

Post by Peter Fisla »

I'm currently downloading the Admiral Edition though I still will perhaps play the original WitP...so I'm wondering if there is still some updates/patches coming.

Thanks!

There is a post around here somewhere where they says an update for WitP will be out sometimes after AE releases.

And I'm the guy I assigned to make the patch happen - it has been called 1.8.0.7 since we first stopped working on it back in 07 ... now that AE is out the pace will pick up ... but release of 1807 timeframe will depend on AE time requirements certainly 1807 - or whatever it will wind up being called is at least 2 months out at this point - maybe more.

OK thanks Joe for the update...any rough idea what's planned ? I will check out WitP from time to time...though I had a blast playing AE today. I'm not sure about air combat/intercept improvements but overall I had a blast.

There are few things that I observed:

Sometimes when get into ship to ship combat and I want to skip the animation then when the dialog is closed the text background stays black but so does the text. The only way for me to fix this is reloading AE. This also happens when I sometimes close the air combat animation dialog, or go to different windows application and then come back to AE.

I'm running AE in windowed mode with the following flags: "-deepColor -w -dual" and I have of course desktop set to 32bit colour.

Hi jwilkerson,

Do you think the proposed 1.8.0.7 patch will be backward compatible to games that are currently being played?

Mike, I'm sure Joe can answer this for sure, but if the planned patch does not contain any database changes, you will be able to continue all current games.  Even if there are DB changes, they won't affect any games already started, only new games.

The basic idea of 1807 (or whatever it winds up being called) is to port over a sub-set of bug fixes from AE - that can be easily ported over. The idea also includes not bringing over - or adding enhancements - AE is the enhancements. But, the biggie for me, is that we will be trying to port over some of the "anti-synch bug" improvements from AE. We will not be doing things like bringing over way-points - that is a clear AE enhancements - not a WITP bug fix.

As to whether 1807 will work with on going games, that is up for discussion. In the past, we (since Don and Joe took over the code anyway) have always done patches that allowed ongoing games to be continued. There are three cases:

01 - Ongoing games continue, new features are automatically activated.

02 - Ongoing games continue, some new features require a restart.

03 - Restart required period.

Each of these options offers more capability in terms of what can be changed, but the penalty of the restart has to be paid. At this point, I'd probably say, we will go with option 02 but that is not final yet.

We need a "me too" button on this forum. This must be the one bug to fix please.

I don't know what the big issue is here, just don't overload your groups with pilots... and if you are a scenario designer keep that in mind...

And I don't want to see a patch which culls MIA/WIA, If you use Tracker you know you get a vast majority of these pilots back!

Having played a CHS game for two years, I was gutted when we had to abandon due to the disappearing pilots. I can't agree with you n01487477 - This bug definitely needs squashing. It has stopped us starting another full campaign for the last 2 or 3 years.

I feel for you mate, there are two known bugs here iirc, the one I am talking about is about pilots being mass culled because the DB (20K pilots) becomes full (that is 20K pilots US AND IJA/N on map!!!)... There is never any need for this many pilots, if the scenario designer organises it correctly and the player doesn't disband 100's of pilots into his groups... the other bug, which rtapasso was talking about I agree needs to be squashed ...

I just don't want to see WIA/MIA pilots mass culled to make room for greedy players, putting more into their groups.

Having thought about it as writing, therefore I agree the DB size can be increased, but I'm against a tool to cull MIA/WIA pilots ... they come back /..

The disappearing pilots bug seems to be mainly caused by people over-loading their units. Joe has done about all he can do with this without changing the size of the files. Changing the file size would require a game re-start. I believe this is actually on the plate for 1.9 but cant say for sure.

In CHS 155, at the end of the war, there are about 22000 allied planes and 12000 jap planes.
So if there is no complete destruction of air groups and even if the 2 players are putting in each group exactly the same number of pilots, the pilot bug will occur before end. It is mathematical[:'(].

Of course, as Damian said, WitPtracker is very useful to check each day how many pilots we have.
I decided to have never more than 10500 pilots and Emek, 19500.
We hope so we will avoid this bug.

And yes, complete destruction of MIA and KIA pilots would be a good thing.

Rominet,
I've seen a few MIA's come back, but I guess I'll concede that if necessary ... I never knew that CHS had that many planes, this could be a simple scenario fix OR couldn't a player be fore-warned and then disband groups never to return ? But then I guess the pilots are named and hence still in pool or with another group...

I guess the inevitable will come and the DB will change size and I'll have to sift through the data file again so that Tracker will work [>:]

Yes, i remenber sometimes MIA pilots may come back (1/10 chance i think).
The solution not to have too many pilots is not to disband definitively but to stop aircraft replacement. I don't want here to speak too much but just as an example:
when i will arrive to 10000 pilots, i will begin to not replace planes in dive bomber groups, and so on and so on ... .
I can choose my preferences.[:)]

Well I had started working on an "AE mod" of CHS 155 that eliminated a lot of the duplicate units, ground and air. Im done with the ground units and most of the Jap air (about 1/2 of them are gone). Havent been able to motivate myself to finishing it though.

I would like to request that the "affinity" change included in the 1.0.0.1080 AE hotfix also be included in any WitP "Classic" patch.  I've used the affinity "hack" and it REALLY improves the performance of the game on my dual core laptop.

We're planning to put the same performance improvements in the next official WITP update as well.

how much would it take to enable the 'Follow TF' button for enemy TFs? i understand that no new features will be added anymore, but it's already there, obviously, just restricted to friendlies.
