1. Same as sub units.
2. Currently I think nothing will happen however I'm going to tighten up the code a bit to ensure nothing happens, withdraw date should be after 411207 not zero.

Foot of the OP Report
224 Gp RAF Arrives in United Kingdom

Check the map, thinking 'great how I am I going to get that to India in less than several months with no shipping and have to go around the Cape' - however when I look at the UK, there is no 224 Gp. A quick search and filter of LCU's reveals it's actually at Aden.
So is this...
  • A typo
  • FoW gone mad
  • Or just the Air Staff behaving as they normally do (not having a clue about what's going on at the 'coal face')

So if it is one of the first two - oops [X(]
If it is the last one - congratulations you have managed to model the vagaries of the higher echelons of the RAF (still happens today)[;)]

I've noticed that several of the HQs from Malaya / Burma that are destroyed, are respawned in the UK, then are removed from play. I'm assuming that this one is intended.

Jan. 17th, 1942 Allied player vs. japanese AI. I decided to concentrate my forces at Manila on Luzon. The AI pushed my forces out of Clark Field and they retreated to Bataan. The AI then moved it's army on to invest Manila. The problem is that it didn't move any forces to besiege or take Bataan and it didn't leave any forces at Clark. I moved a unit into Clark from Bataan and took back the now empty base.

I have been looking for something on training units. I have several units on Rest status and have upgraded
the commanders and have waited to see the experience ratings change. No such luck. Is there something out
there about this? I have been looking but have not found it yet.

Update: Found it. 8.2.1.4 Objectives

I have not see any land unit gain experince in 6 weeks now. On Dec 8th I placed most of the land units in China, India, west coast and New Zeeland on rest/train. They are filling out to there TOE but, zero on the experince level in every country.

Remember filling out TOE pulls in inexperieced sections and dilutes any xp gained

Also need to be 100% prep before training commences

Is there some kind of conclusion that has been reached with walking on water units?

Again deliberate for the AI

Hi Andy,

Just to follow up on this. So for all 'full TOE' that has 0 as an items maximum we shouldn't report?

Ummm if its Av support or Engineers I wouldnt there is a bit of code that allows the AI to expand its Av Support and Eng from 0 to a reasonable number if no other unit with av support or engineers are present.

Its a neccessary fudge because the Ai will not replace base forces if they are destroyed en route. So I added a few of these 0 lines to units that are going to the same location as base forces that are vulnerable to interception in case a convoy gets wiped.

(0 Av support is a bad thing because the Ai will not use a base without at least 1 point of Av support).

Cool, figured that was the case. Just take a look at all the Dutch base forces, they are the ones that as far as I can tell, have no date entered but have the 2nd withdraw option selected.

Thanks again for all the hard work and the replies!

Update on this issue.

Now up to Jan. 23. The AI still has made no move to retake Clark. The troops that had been trapped in Bataan (11 units with 260 AV) have moved to Manila. A tank battalion is ravaging the AIs rear areas having taken the empty bases of Cabanatuan and Bayombong.

The Japanese Combined Fleet doesn't show up as part of the Southern Command, when looking at commands.

Some units of the Combined Fleet (Yokosuka) can't change command and other units in Truk can.

Andy:

The Zuiho just got mugged in a night surface engagement by a Brit CL and 4 Brit DDs. Action at-sea meeting about 1/2 way between Borneo and Palembang. (Scen 6 vs IJ AI/Hard)

The reason the Zuhio was lost not because it was out there aggressively but because it only had a single DD escort. Was this (a single DD escort for a CVL) part of the AI plan or a blunder by the AI? You needn't answer that in public, it's rhetorical and for your information.

Problem is that while Andy can make the AI trickier and more varied and flexible in it's endevors and responses, making it "think" may be asking too much. "Cute" moves like this designed to take advantage of the AI's "goal obsessions" are probably going to succeed unless you wanted to wait another year for him to write a half million lines of "possible response scripts". To get as good experiance playing against the AI, you are still going to have to rein in your "cleverness". It's the nature of the beast....
