Usn BBs sunk at Pearl

Post by dasboot1960 »

I haven't found any mention of reapir to ships sunk in major harbors. My main concern is of course the ones sunk at pearl (active game, I'm not saying the number)

Ships sunk are sunk. You can not repair ships that have sunk even if they are in a shallow harbor.

dasboot, sunk in the game represents an unsalvagable loss. The very high system damage ships that manage to avoid "sinking" represent a ship that can be salvaged (whether you have to raise it from the harbor floor or it never actually went under) if you are willing to put in the shipyard time.

I'll put this under my: "Oh what strange ideas...." column. You think that just because a ship is sunk in a harbor they should give it priority. You said it yourself "If your willing to put in the shipyard time"
You have no concept of the situation in PH after the attack. Your shipyard time as you like to call it is taken up with working on ships that have a chance to get back in the war and are afloat.
Well at least I had my original idea for WW2 today LOL

yep

Just for example, the game does not consider West Virginia "sunk" in my GC, but the shipyard repair time would be 973 days if I choose to put it in a shipyard. In fact, I have it tied up "pierside" while I use the shipyards to repair ships that may come back before the last Iowa arrives.

And if you are interested in real life here, I recommend Resurrection by Madsen. It is (at least was) available through Amazon and provides a great deal of detail in the problems of salvaging the sunken ships at PH

Thanks for the responses.... As to my state of mind, it was simply a comparison with actual history........ Given the locations of the historical sinkings, one might wonder if leaving them sunk in place shouldn't perhaps obstruct 'dockspace'. Double parked along ford island isn't exactly dockside, but I believe there were permanent installations for refueling at those slips...
