No Japanese Airfields showing

Post by CuriousWordsmith »

Wonder if a bug or there is a better way to find Japanese airfields in campaign game. I send recon or bomb each suspected (nearly all by now) airfields but have yet to see the airfield symbol. I can see all Allied.

FOW, no bug.

Air recon...

Keep doing it, exp of unit does matter.

Free intel is a thing of the past.[;)]

Thanks! I just wanted to be certain that it worked. From what you are saying the new game requires more frequent recon for better experience. I can live with that.

You got it.

Just stay on it and target the suspected bases.

You'll get intel, eventually.

As stated, exp of recon unit is very important for quanity and quality of mouseover reports.[;)]

Question: When you mouse-over an enemy base, is the airfield and port size correct, or is this also covered with FOG and the true size is only known after recon?

If there is no planes at the base, you can't see the airfield symbol.

Pretty sure that aspect is accurate.

Also base building is in the combat report, for both sides.

That is a fact.[;)]

So, you can make reasonable guesses for recon targets based on airfield size and range.

This was an underrated Allied advantage in WITP that is no more. If the Jap Player loaded up an airbase with planes for a strike the following day, the Allied player would see them parked on the runway during their orders, and assign 500 4E bombers to obliterate the airbase. The free intel was definitely in the Allies favor; Japanese move first, didn't see the fresh planes moved in.

On many levels, these days appear over in AE.

There are a few more of these "unseen" advantages that got nuked in AE.

We'll see how long it takes you guys to figure out which ones got caught and negated.

A sixpack of your favorite beer to the player that finds them all.[;)][:D]

What about P-38s flying sweep at maximum altitude, avoiding all japanese CAP since they can't reach them, and then magically appearing at 100 feet to strafe everything... Is it gone?

A good Jap player could make that work to his advantage as well. If you put your ships to sea with no move orders and auto disband set, the allies wouldnt see the port symbol and thus not attack it. In the meantime, your ships would be sitting there in the port safe and sound.

Edit: And since you move first, you take them right back out of port and the allies NEVER see what you are doing.

If you are in coastwatcher territory they might help but I find that they are not much help. They kept telling me of Jap Carriers posted all around Lae, Finshafen and Buna. I was terrified until I began to realize that the bases were too small for carriers. Talk about crying wolf. Now when they do show up, I will be in deep doo.

Those guys need some training too.

My new mantra- recon, recon, recon.. and then more.

It is just like quantum physics... it is impossible to directly observe a Japanese airfield - one can only speak about about probable airfield locations.

Besides, does my esteemed opponent not know that my airfields have mastered the secret ninja art of not being seen?

No more air balance.

No more airfield symbols

No more port symbols

No more mousing over a enemies LCU (that doesn't even show on the map) and still being able to see how many LCU's are in the hex.
