It might seem that way, but I think the size of the manual (which is highly unusual for 2009) would probably scare most people off if they weren't WitP veterans in the first place, thus a general release would be counter-productive.

Terminus, those who are deterred by the scope of the game have already decided not to buy over the life of WitP. The worst-case scenario is that the manual will increase their resolve, but it might stimulate interest in those who look at it out of curiosity.
It seems to me that Matrix have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Since the "Manual Preview Thread" has been unstickied and is heading to the bottom faster than a holed sub, this is being moved to where it may do some good:

6.1.12 (Pg 104): The last sentence states "For greater realism, Japanese subs can be set to use the Japanese Sub Doctrine (see section 2.4.1 Japanese Sub Doctrine)." This option no longer exists, and in fact, section 2.4.1 is now titled "Fog of War".

The 5.1 section of the Manual describes the "Intelligence Display". Are the results reported each turn in this display accurate/actual for the enemy if FOW is selected? Or might these stats be disguised/wrong for the enemy if FOW is in use?

Dang! You're quick! Thank you.

Does this include the VP calculations? So you never really know how you stand vs the enemy during the course of the game?

Regarding repair ships, I couldn't find the info, but how many repair ships can operate at a port?

Look at section 14.2.3.2 in the manual for info on repair ships.

After a long time away from here I'm back after buying this. I thought I had broken my addiction to WITP but it seems I'll be hooked a while yet. I don't seem to have the manual download show up in members area. I just have downloads for the map and the hot fix. Any ideas?

Manual/Base question, I'll post it here (at least to begin with).

Section 9.1, Bases.
The example screen given on page 205 of the "LIGHT" manual gives the usual figures for "Supplies" and "Supplies Required". The text relevant to this says:
Supplies on hand (1728), Supplies Required (417) per day in order to function
at full efficiency

Per day? That's not how I remember it, or how it seems to work. Manual typo, or has something changed between 'vanilla' and AE, or have I just got this completely wrong?

The manual is included in your download. There must be a file in there somewhere.
