Repair of Major ship damage

Post by hbrsvl »

Hi-Scen.1, 12/15/41, Allies. What is the proceedure for the repair of major damage to the ships at PH?

I've got 2 OBBs, as an example, in shipyard at PH, but there is an "X" notation stating major repair cannot be done at PH.

Since both have "major damage" in the flotation area( in the red), what can I do to get flotation damage down to a reasonable level(orange) so I can get them back to ConUS?

I looked through the manual and did not find anything specific to this problem. Or, did I miss something?

Thanks, Hugh Browne

They have to be put into a shipyard.  I think an ARD will repair Major Flotation of up to 5.  After that, I think you need a shipyard.

A repair ship can repair small amounts of major damage (a couple of points), but you need to put ships into a shipyard for anything greater.

Just because you've entered the repair routine doesn't mean you've put them in "the shipyard".  You've got several options; pierside, repair ship, readiness or shipyard.  If you've got an "X" in your damage then only the shipyard option will repair it.  If you click on the options you can cycle through them until you reach shipyard; then the "X" should disappear and get replaced with an estimated time to repair.

I've got a couple of my BB's that will need over a year to be completely repaired, and several others with over 100 days of time left.  I don't even dare try to get them to the WC with so much damage done to them still.

Kinda forces you to prioritize doesn't it? Is an old WWI relic of a BB more important than an Essex carrier? I know which I'd put in line first. TBH, I'd probably choose to put DDs ahead of the relic BB.

Right now I don't have too many other badly damaged ships at Pearl that need shipyard repair, so the old BB's are getting worked on in the shipyard while the lightly damaged ships get pierside or repair ship help.  If there's major damage then I pop them in the shipyard for those repairs after all the minor damage repair is finished.

I'd love to move the BB's to off-map repair bases but they are still too damaged to risk the trip.  I've moved some badly damaged cruisers to the WC and they started taking on water about halfway there (temp. repairs failing or something like that), so the BB's would never get there (speed 1-5 knots, total Sys/Flot/Eng damage over 120 for most of them).

John-Thanks to all for their inputs.

However, what I'm asking is, as time passes, can one see improvements in floatation, etc. for shipyarded units? So that after 30-45 days, perhaps flotation has gone from red to orange? If so, then at some time, we'll be able to get those OBBs to WC, with reasonable chance of making it.

I think we need to remember that those OBBs are going to be needed for pre-invasion shoots.

Again, thanks to all. HB

Oh absolutely you'll see results if you put the ships in the shipyard repair mode.  All of my BB's no longer have minor damage of any kind after nearly two months in repair, but the major damage is so great several of them are going to be rebuilt from the keel up, it appears.
