Grenade Malfunctions!

Huh?

Scenario: Assault on Corregidor
Side: Americans
Ver: 4.3

The "Bomb Chutes" forts are merrily raining satchel charges and grenades (they've got them by the box full - a sort of 'Going Out of Business' sale) down on the hapless Japs.

Then all of a sudden - I get the warning "Grenade Malfunctions!" The grenade count drops from 44 to 0.

What happened? GI Joe got a hangnail and can't throw them anymore? Image Or is an oversight when these custom made Bomb Chutes were converted from regular Log Rifle pits and the MG slot was converted to a grenade slot.

Intensely interesting, Tommy. I play and test this game as much as anyone, more than most, and I have never seen "grenade malfunction." Not in six years of playing all versions...never.

That is not denying that you did. I can't imagine why. What are these "bomb chutes" to which you refer? I've never heard of that either.

One of the scenes I enjoyed in SPR was the mutual tossing back and forth of grenades when they assaulted the MG position.

I've read of grenade duels often in war but never seen it portrayed.

I've had grenades malfunctions twice so far.
WB the first time was in testing Utah To The Rhine, and the other one was in The Ranville Resolve scenario. Image

WB & Tankhead,

Looks like you guys haven't played Corregidor yet, I think it's one of the standard scenarios from the game. The story line: The US troops are guarding the cliffs on the shore below North Point. As the Japs land below, the US drops 25 pound bombs, by sliding them down chutes that they had rigged. The satchel charges seem to be the "stand-in" for the 25 lb bombs. They also had boxes & boxes of grenades. They show in the game as an icon similar to a log rifle pit. Game designer is Stuart Millis.

I am glad you are enjoying this scenario. Unfortunately it plays best in version 2.3 (for which it was designed)
I tried to upgrade it to version 4.1, then 4.2 then 4.3......each time it plays differently.........
Still waiting for the final version release!
With some recently updated historical information and these larger map sizes I might be able to make the battle into an all-island battle -time allowing.

I too have seen just about every weapon mal-function at some time or other. It is more likely to happen in the hands of inexperienced troops. I have never seen the kukri malfunction.

I had the bow and arrow malfunction in a Philippines battle. String must have broken.

I can buy the grenade malfunctions - just say they got a badly produced crate from the factory...

bow and arrow malfunction, yeah, I can take that as well...

I even had the "bamboo spear" malfunction. I guess they just picked the wrong kind of plant to make it from. Yes, even the pointed stick is an unreliable weapon. Did this deter the japanese civilian militias? Not in the slightest. They are one mean defensive unit - just make sure they are situated in the centre of a block of buildings, so as not to allow anyone to shoot at them without getting a sharp stick in the eye. They are incredibly tenacious - take your basic japanese 'no surrender' attitude and then add that to a 25 man unit ... they just won't give up.
