Worth the buy?

From the front lines in France and Russia to the deserts of North Africa and the airfields and convoys of Britain, the campaigns of World War II are yours to command in WW2: Time of Wrath! This turn-based grand strategy title, the highly improved and expanded sequel to WW2: Road to Victory, puts the player in charge of the political, economic and military decisions of one or more Axis or Allied nations, including minor nations.

Worth the buy?

Post by AirGriff »

I'm giving myself a break from WitP for a while and waiting for the first volley of patches with AE. This looks like a pleasant diversion. Just wondering what the folks on here think.

Are divisions accurately and historically modelled, or are they more like groups of units in a corps?

First thing to answer is that you can check the demo (see my sig), then you would have at least some view about the gameplay.

Other thing is that we have tried to put as detailed OOB as possible in a game of divisions and corps scale.

I think it's fun, and has a lot of potential.

At least on standard difficulty though, don't expect the AI to be more than a punching bag.  My first game I played Germany.  Conquered Poland in four weeks, wheeled around and was in Paris by the New Year.  Launched an invasion of England in mid-March 1940 and forced them to surrender very quickly.  My army was in position to attack Russia on June 24, 1940 so I went for it.  Russia surrendered early July 1941.  Game over.  My second game I played the Soviet Union.  Germany attacked in late April of 1941.  By Christmas I was in Berlin.  By the spring of 1942, Soviet tanks were rolling in to Brest and Bordeaux on the Atlantic coast.  I declared war on the Allies and America, blitzed Iraq, and started building up for simultaneous invasions of Sweden, Italy, Spain, and plotting a landing in England scheduled for summer of 1943.

The game has a nice 'feel' though.  I liked being able to do actual large scale encirclements in Russia, something that games like Strategic Command are too large scale and abstract to represent satisfactorly.

Next game I'll put the AI on max bonus, but it's just production help, so I'm not sure how much that will really help.

If by "max bonus" you mean each of your nations at "very hard" and each enemy nation at "very easy" you should have a bit of a challenge, yep.
