Ok, here is a problem

Post by crsutton »

I diverted a low fuel cargo TF carrying five airgroups to a small island to meet with another TF to refuel. I fogot to change it to "do not unload" So in one turn the Tf unloaded all five airgroups (70 aircraft) onto a size 1 port, size 0 airfield atoll. Now of course the TF won't load the airgroups back. I suppose the port is too small to load airgroups. That is fine, with me. The problem is that by accident or not, the TF should neve have been allowed to unload the airgroups in the first place (did they float the planes ashore?)

The only solution that I can see is to rush a base force in an amphibious TF to the island, build the base up to a level one airstrip and then fly the planes off. I am lucky that I have some of my scarce APs and a spare base force nearby. In another area I would have been screwed big time as the Allies have very little amphibious capibility eary on.

So, I am suggesting that in a future patch it is fixed so that you can not unload any equipment in any port that you could not possibly load it back on. Cause this is bound to happen again.

Wouldn't that rule prevent amphibious landings at dot bases?

It should not apply to amphibious TFs.

I don't know if it will or not but the present situation will need correcting. I am sending an amphip force to land a base force. I will try to load the planes on the APs to see if I can do it.

If amphibous AKs cannot reload the planes, then I would bring in some "naval support" squads ... 40+ to be safe and see if that helps.

I guess your ships ran themselves around to prevent them from drifting off while low on fuel, and had to unload their cargo in order to refloat. Now, with no pier they cannot reload the planes ... need some naval harbor management guys to try to help! If that won't work, then yup, you will need some CBs to build you a pier!

If you are the Jap, you can use your LSD to pull them off. Allies have something called an AKV I think you might try.

Well, it is a level one port and I am able to dock one single large merchant there but still cannot load any aircraft. I would try to get some naval support there but they are in short supply in that particular theater. Just going to have to move a USAF base force there and fly them out when the airfield gets built.

In the real scheme of things it is a minor issue but could be addressed in a future patch. I really needed those planes in OZ and it will be two or three weeks before I can get them out.

Note to self. Never-never-ever allow your ships to meet up anywhere other than open sea.[:-]

It does seem strange that they can not load the cargo (whatever it may be) using the same method they used to off-load the cargo[&:]
