Some subs not loading troops

Post by pad152 »

Issue: Some subs can load troops and others can't?

1. Load saved game file, Player allies.

2. Go to Manila, look at the two task forces (sub transport)

3. The Sub Tarpon is loading troops, the sub Perch can't? Both are docked Port size 5 not damaged.

See attached file

The zip file includes custom scenario files scen#27 + the saved game file (wpae010.pws)

As I said, in the naval thread, we don't have time to work on custom scenario issues at this point, to busy working on non-custom scenario issues [:)] please hold custom scenario issues until after patch 02.

It is possible that heavier torpedos will not load at a port which will load lighter torps. Ports are no longer "all or nothing" with regard to whether they will load torps.

1. The issues has nothing to do with TORPEDO'S, it's with LOADING TROOPS!

2. Unless the EDITOR is broken, it has nothing to do with it being a custom scenario, It just copy of campaign two, with some of the data fixes and few extra Japanese ships. Not my fault Japanese carrier air groups were missed up with in the original campaigns.

If you can reproduce the issue in a "stock" AE scenario we will be happy to investigate.

I believe there are issues with loading troops on submarines and we are looking at that. At one point we were excluding ALL loading of troops on submarines - then we made some exceptions - I'm not sure these two ideas got completely reconcilled. Having an (AE) stock save demonstrating the problem would be helpful.

At this point, we have to draw a line at drilling into custom scenario issues - you might be right that your custom scenario is irrelevant, but once we cross that line, I'm sure we will encounter many "scenario related" issues, which essentially are "editor training" issues. And we cannot guarrantee that every feature of the editor is 100% documented and bullet proof.

But a simple (AE) stock scenario demonstrating submarine troop loading inconsistencies would definitely be helpful.

From this I assume that you would have us abandon all the players who have problems with stock scenarios and concentrate only on your problem. You'll (probably) get your turn after the guys that haven't changed the scenarios.

You're welcome.

Back in the old days of WITP the situation was the same. The programmers were up front and explained that for the most part they could not take up valuable resources trying to trouble-shoot MODs while issues remained in stock games. Yes, some people were unhappy about this but I do not remember anybody with a response such as yours.

Maybe you don't understand this point, if you change one (1) thing in any program it can effect some other part of the same program unintentionally (sometimes the reason WHY is either impossible or just to costly (in terms of resources) to find out. This is why you were asked if you can create the same issue in a stock game as with that they have a better chance to trouble-shoot. This may not make sense but it is a fact of life when dealing with software (or at least it has been in my almost 30 years working with it).

Well for years, Don and Joe and Michael and others have supported issues with custom scenarios on the WITP side, even RHS issues which used a different map and map data file, but right now, for 2-3 months, we would ask to hold off on submitting custom scenario issues, while we focus our attention on the teething issues with (AE) stock.

Hopefully, the rudeness on both sides can be forgotten and we can move forward.

I'm playing stock Scen 1 and can't get TROOPS to load on to my larger subs. Heres an example, I sent Salmon to Brunei to pick up a fragment of 107 RN Base Force that got stranded there. Before doing so I disbanded Salmon @ Singapore and on the next turn put it into a sub transport TF and sent it to Brunei. Once it got there I tried several times & turns to load the fragment (75 support troops) but nothing happens.

I've also had a problem loading supplies, I put another one @ PH into a sub transport TF and told it to load supplies, with a final desitation being Wake Is. However, it loaded a little less than half it is supposed to and took off.

I know in WitP you could only load troops onto the larger US subs (which was something I routinely did with the 'New S' class boats), but couldn't on the boats like the 'Old S' or Perch class or any of the Dutch or RN types as well.

Sorry, I don't have any saves, I'm several turns past trying this and don't think I'll being trying again any time soon.

We have intentionally put limits on the ability of subs to load troops. Especially in ports under enemy air threat. Don't recall exact what they are but they are very restrictive. The intent being to disallow movement of large forces via submarine.

Right, the intention in AE was to "tone down" the removal of fragments to respawn all the SRA troops later in the game. There are several mechanisms now that try to prevent this activity.

Okay, I understand the logic behind this, but you're saying a fragment with 75 support troops (now down to 60 due to attrition), without any equipment, is a large unit?
