Warships in the pacific war. Were these painted in camo?

Are the camouflaged ship mods authentic?

I was just wondering. If I saw (not so much) movies or pictures from ships of the pacific war. I can´t remember they worn camo.

Also I don´t now much about the pacific war (a lot about the atlantic theater. You might bet).
I am interested right now in the pacific theater. WithP:AE gave me a rush. [;)]

There is a picture of an IJN CV I think it was the Zuikaku she had gun batteries painted on the flight deck to try to make her look like a BB.

I don't think they were in camo at the start of the war.Does anybody know approx, when camo started to appear? I would like to start the war with game supplied ship graphics, then switch to camo on a certain date, when appropriate.

The Zuiho had this deck camo too I believe.

USN carriers were camouflaged too! Here's USS Essex in 1944.

Japanese camo patterns for CVs were first applied in 08/1944. All four CV/CVL involved in Sho-Go operation wore them.

All US warships wore some camo measures from 1940/1941. They were called "Measure#". The best site describing them is the following :

Perhaps I'M not saying too big that the USN had one of the most (next to the ROyal Navy) extensive use of camo during WWII on ships. There were several standard patterns and a lot of variations of these. Some ships (like USS Saratoga, USS Missouri) even received camo specially designed for her lines.

Absolutely - breaking up the ship's lines also prevented subs from discerning a true course or heading.

Ups. So many answers in such a short time. I feel as if I pushed the button for the jack in the box. [:)]

Thanks Gilbert for the link. Very interesting.

I would not believed. There exsist a websit about camouflage on warships. [X(]

Some interesting questions from Mr. Custer above:
Do they were in camo at the start of the war?
Does anybody know approx, when camo started to appear?
I would like to start the war with game supplied ship graphics, then switch to camo on a certain date, when appropriate. Me too! [8|]

1+2) The Allies started changing paint schemes almost as soon as they got into conflict. I think most USN warships were in overall grey at the time of the US entry into the war, although there were also some in overall blue or a blue lower hull with grey upperhull and superstructure. The dazzle type schemes started to be used in 1943 iirc, although I'm pretty sure Tom Label is the expert on the USN camo. The RN had plenty of ships in such schemes in Dec 41.
3) The easiest way to do this (or similar) is to use the editor and find out which art files are assigned to each ship refit. Then download/make an appropriate art set and name it to match the refit.

You don't build models, do you? Look here, for example, at the extensive detail about HMS Hood. If you're interested in building a realistic model, it needs to be correct:

Martin,
If you go to the Ship Camouflage website and browse the "ship database" and the "measures", you will get accurate answers regarding timeframe applications of these measures for all US ships. Regarding RN, the best sources come from A.Raven 4 booklets "Royal Navy Camouflage".

Hope this helps

Did someone say USN camo????

MS12 MOD or MS32/33?

Based on BOS design sheets with a little artistic license on sunk ship classes as a 'what-if'.

I'll leave the Admiralty schemes to Dixie as he is the resident expert to date![&o]

(edit: below are based on Standardized Artwork Set....AE set in conjunction with Big B in the works.)
