>>> Which brother would YOU want to be?

The one that plays AE the most often!!!
So without a doubt, the doll one, life is cruel...

Definitely humans oponent are less reliable and sometimes play even more silly things than the AI.

But you're lucky if you can discipline yourself and some friendly oponent of same level as you playing regularily.
I guess the compromize is to have a slow but serious PBM like this while playing against the AI the rest of time
(with the opposite side, say !). But how to resist playing the AI when the PBM is too slow ? Pure ideology ?
Not mine, the current AI will be improved again but is already sufficiently efficient to give a very realistic taste.
Hope Andy will continue developping very good scripts and hope one day the AI will be so developped that we
will have to parametrize her style to give such or such flavor (of course the random choice will be the best)
before starting the GC, and the editor could allow the mods do many variations. We can even imagine sending
our current saved game every 2-3 months of gametime to somebody else to let him check the other side and
reorganize it and modify a few script and parameters, prepare it to launch some operations... Or even play a
few turns to improve the AI situation while modifying the directives... A mixture of AI and PBM !!! And maybe a
way to improve the AI by motivated casual opponent players checks. Always take the best of each opposed
arguments to solve contradictions and go through, my very naive attitude in life.

TZ
There is only two kinds of operational plans, good ones and bad ones.
The good ones almost always fail under unexpected circumstances that often make the bad ones succeed.

With AE immortality is no more a curse.

There were two brothers; one married to a woman he considered the most beautiful, alluring, and enticing woman in the world, the other dating a plastic blow-up "companion." The first brother was thrilled with every aspect of his marriage and tried to talk his brother into finding a mate. His brother, however, demurred, saying, "Ah, I like the pace of life with my plastic companion; I can 'play' with her whenever I like; I don't have to worry about her wandering off with another man."

Ladies and gentlemen, we now have a name for the AI, "Dolly" the blow up doll! [:D][&o]

I'll second that name [:D]

The problem I find with playing the AI, is that deep down I know I am going to win. I do play the AI now and then for practice and to test ideas. I have yet to hear of someone playing the AI to the end in WITP and losing. It might happen in AE. We will see.

Bah, games against the AI are intolerable. You need to find a reliable and clever opponent. Man, there's nothing like it.

Agreed. Reliable (but maybe not too clever [:D]) opponents are gold. One of mine was my first UV opponent and we've been at it ever since. I've heard the stories about disappearing PBEM opponents, but it's never happened to me. Remember reliability works both ways. Never be afraid to try PBEM. Find an opponent with similar style and availablility, discuss beforehand. So what if the game takes a couple of years or more. I don't play to get to the end; I play for the experience of it.

The married brother had three years with his alluring wife - three years of snuggling, passion, and intimacy - before she lost six carriers in a massive engagement and suddenly disappeared into the night. He was heartbroken, but man, what a ride it had been! The other brother had three years with his blow up doll. Three years of unfulfilled desire, feverish nightmares of unrequitted love, and plastic burns. After his brother's wife ran away, he secretly rejoiced over his blow up doll. Meanwhile, his brother met this fabulous blonde at a church social, and began another torrid relationship...

Which brother would YOU want to be?

Both.

Well I wish I had 3 dozen Beauforts at the moment. :)

Anyway it is how the player reacts sometimes you have to give the AI a few beans and not take advantage of silly things. You can make things gamey just as easy with PBEM but you set house rules no need not to have rules for your own games against the AI is there?

But i prefer to play the real game that being the AI :)

Although I could easily put the hurt on any human who ventured out of Tokyo.

Just wondering if the first brother had to worry about a pre-nup in his relationship?

Dear Diary,

On day 122 of my celibacy, this thread had slipped to page seven, and there are something like 56 pages of threads in a forum that's just two week's old! Man, AE is getting some attention!

But I remain chaste as I await the first patch, after which it appears that Miller and I may square off in a Grand Campaign (Scenario 2) using two-day turns.

That means I should be able to keep my vow for about 135-140 days, which I think is a pretty good faith effort towards meeting my original objective of 180 days.

P.S. I still can't bring myself to play against the AI.

Dear Diary,

On day 129 of my celibacy, I've resorted to memorizing the poetry of Robert Frost:

Something there is that doesn't love a wall,
That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it
And spills the upper boulders in the sun,
And makes gaps even two can pass abreast.

Man, I don't write in my diary for a week and it drops to page nine! There is too much writin' goin' on in the AE forum!

One day, a young novitiate monk was in the vaults of the monastery with the Monsignor going through the old scrolls as part of his initiation into the order.
"You see, there are the originals," said the Monsignor. "All the new scrolls were copied from these."
Full of curiosity, the monk asked, "Can I see one?"
"Sure. This is one outlines the rules of the order, the vows, and the rules...-" All of the sudden, the Monsignor's face turns white, he falls to his knees, and begins to weep, which causes the young monk to run to him with great concern and consternation.
"What? What does it say?"
The Monsignor turns his eyes to heaven, and groans...

...and on that note, I respectfully submit post number 500!!!!! ...to a thread regarding celibacy, no less...

Keep 'em coming, Rev! [&o]

Every time I see one of your posts, Rev, I'm reminded of the Greek Orthodox priest who performed a wedding in San Fran years ago for a squadron mate of mine...In the bar, after the wedding, he lustfully gazed at the cigarette I was smoking while sipping his neat scotch. I offered him a smoke, at which point he said, "damn you to hell" and took it from my hand. So I have that going for me....which is nice. [8D]

The AI is great for learning the game and getting a sense of the possibilities of your army. I've played all the smaller scenarios already and am now playing a GC against the AI as allies. Once I've managed to turn the tide and have got the hang of this game a bit I'll go looking for a PBEM opponent.

I have the same problem (AI is ok but not really fun), however the game is simply too massive to play against human opponents. Family and work first, entertainment second.
