And I thought I had ship repair worked out

Post by Chris21wen »

Could someone eplain way I can't repair this sub with this setting? It has 1 major engine damage, the repair estimates doesn't say I can't yet I keep getting a report that 'No additional repairs possible on SS S-28 using currently assigned resources at Pearl Harbor'. If this is the case then surely there should be big fat 'X' in the days column and not a '1'.

I think your problem is, that AS (?) or AR might help sub lose that 1 point of major damage, but it is out of ops points, because it was also helping other subs.

Major damage can only be repaired in a shipyard.

Hmm..I thought it was said that repair ships could also repair few points of major damage?

Found it, manual 14.2.1:

Major Damage can only be repaired at a suitably sized Port or Repair Shipyard, or for small craft or low levels of major damage, at a port or alongside a repair ship or tender.

Your screen does not give us enough information. Click on the ship and under the (number of days) bracket if the 1 is followed by a "#" that means the ship will be reparied in one day by the repair ship but the ship will not repair that 1 major damage and you must move it to pierside or to the yard to finish repairs. If the 1 is not followed by a "#" the AS will repair that 1 point of major damage.

I think the one day listed on the screen you show means that it will take one day for the repair ship to fully finish all of the repairs that it possibly can.

But this is all new to me as well......

Sometimes pier-side or repair ship will do it.

Could be, Im old, I forget.

How many repair ships do you actually have in the port? I see on the display that you have 4 ships assigned to it, but the question is, do you actually have 4 repair ships there?

Looks like it might be a minor bug - an AR should be able to repair a small amount of major damage. Please post a save, as Don requested. I'll move this to the Tech Support forum.

I'd also tried peirside to no avail so but I finally stuck it in the shipyard and it did repair. Note that I did have 1 x AS and 1 xAR that were undamaged in PH. The save is one turn earlier.

This is a display bug.

There are so many ships assigned to Repair Ship repairs that all of the Repair Ship ops are used up by the time the repair process gets to S-28.

There is code to detect absense of an AR (or ARD) and reset the repair method if none are present - i.e. repairs ship(s) moved away or badly damaged/sunk. However, there is no code in the message generation process to examine the status of the ARs that are present.

So, no AR ops points available for the ship generates a "no repairs possible" condition while presence of an AR prohibits "no AR present" condition. The
S-28 drops through the cracks and the message code assumes it needs a better method.

Not too sure how much effort this is worth, but it certainly is not a priority item.
