Germany used its offensive during Impulse 5, September/October 41.ORIGINAL: composer99
So the big question is: now that it is snow, is there anywhere the USSR could look at launching its big winter counter-offensive?
It would have to be careful. If Germany still has its o-chit in its pocket Moscow could yet fall.

The Soviet Union now feels that Moscow is secure but that reserves are to low.

Secured? The german broke the front in the south with a large gap and they are exploiting it.

Indeed.
But remember that this is the Barbarossa scenario. Next turn is the last turn. With the weather this bad and the turn advancing fast towards the end, I, as USSR, belive that Moscow will hold untill the end.
With such bad weather as it is now it is now there a modifier for more bad weather next impulse as well. If the weather turns fine this turn it could still be trouble for Moscow but it is only 10% chance of that happening.
What I ment with secure was that with the current weather, snow, Germany would not be able to make any decent attacks on the defence line surronding Moscow. Also note the word "feels".
Maybe a picture of the southern front is appropriate now?

Orm's point is that this is a game, and as such, the rules at the start of the scenario stated there would be 5 turns (only). All games are like this, with things happening outside of the given simulation definition that can be argued up, down, and sideways.ORIGINAL: micheljq

As it is, the USSR is looking for a draw, not a win (or at least I think that is the status).

Germany has at the moment a small victory and would like to capture additional cities but do not feel like taking low odds attacks in bad weather. Germany therefore just did one automatic attack on a 2-3 Militia.

Not much happens during the storm. Both sides have trouble with the supply as well.

I just want to enjoy watching a bloody exchange resulting in the annihilation of all forces involved on the very last impulse of the very last turn. [:D]
Germany's unforgivable crime before the Second World War was her attempt to extricate her economy from the world's trading system and to create her own exchange mechanism which would deny world finance its opportunity to profit.

No good groundstrikes for the USSR with all the German fighters about. Nevertheless, are they going to make hay while the sun shines or sit tight and let Jerry do his thing?

The Soviet forces withdraw to a circle around Moscow.
USSR still has an offensive to play but feels that against overwhelming German air superiority and and no disruputed Germans it might be wiser to save it for a possible counterattack.

I am not sure that this tight ring around Moscow is such a good idea for the USSR. The victory conditions are by city for this scenario, so isn't taking Gorki just as important as taking Moscow?ORIGINAL: Froonp

Thinning out the encircling German line should free up units to eliminate some isolated Russian units with low risk.

Moscow counts as 2 victory objects and Gorki as one.
All cities in USSR count as an additional victory object. Since Moscow is both an USSR city and a normal victory objective it counts as 2.

I considered making the defence line longer towards Gorki at first. The line looked to thin for comfort.
Gorki is a city with 2 defenders that can only be attacked from 2 hexes by Germany. Since it is in forrest ground strikes has less chance of success against Gorki.
If Germany attacks Gorki the line surrounding the Moscow pocket may become thin in some places. With bad weather Germany will have real trouble (read impossible) to keep all of that line in supply all the way around and to Gorki.
I therefore prefered to make the tight Moscow defence line. With a Soviet Offencive left there might be a possibility to launch a counteroffencive from the pocket against possible failed German attacks or out of supply Germans.

Germany decides to continue the offence with the fine weather. Launches 4 ground strikes and all clears to their targets disrupting 4 defenders in 2 hexes.
