ESPN Classic: Fidrych on the Mound

This evening I watched part of a replay of ABC's Monday Night Baseball. June 28, 1976. Yankees at Tigers. This was fascinating as I got to see 21-year-old Mark "Bird" Fidrych and his antics. Yes, it's true -- he DID talk to the baseball, and smooth out the mound with his hands. I watched him do it.

At the time of the broadcast, Fidrych was 7-1. He ended the season 19-9.

The announcers were Pirates legend Bob Prince and "front row" Bob Uecker. It was amazing to see and hear. [:)]
