Hi back in wir-forum, many new guys here apperently. Love this game!

Was wondering about war songs. Maybe a little bit of topic but I like to listen to it while playin.

Does anyone have music files with german and russian songs typical for this time(military marsches and so on) then you can send to me at kuniworth@hotmail.com

Or do you know the names of any songs?

Can't send ya any, but know some good tunes you can either download from a music site, or buy on CD.

thx Preuss. Got some good soviet songs already - but need some more. Especially one they played at May 1, 1941. It can be heard in BBC:s world at war, episode Barbarosssa.

Russian: Shostakovich's 7th Symphony 'Leningrad'

I remember reading about this guy in "900 Days". How apparently when things looked the bleakest and coldest, his symphony was the only thing playing on the Civil Loud Speakers.
In the darkness of Winter....only the sound of a ticking clock.

I find German composer Carl Orff's (1895) "Carmina burana" (1936), to be a haunting prequel to the worldwide conflagration that would soon follow. The music was apparently based loosely on German folk melody.

The Wagner stuff and Mr. T.'s "1812" are rousing works, certainly.

Some of my favorite WIR oriented Russian music came after the War however...

The Coasters in 1958 with "YAKety YAK, don't talk back!",

Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell singing Ashford & Simpson's smash
hit "URAL I need to get by",

Stephanie Mills singing " 'Cause I DNIEPER knew love like this before",

and last but not least....(I know you folks see this one coming aaaaaaaall the way from the outfield{baseball expression}....)

The ditty that would have been Joseph Stalin's number one pick....

I don´t know if you can speak russian but I´m searching for a special song. I saw it in the BBC world at war documentrary(Episode Barbarossa) when the red army celebrates May 1 1941.

My ex girlfriend who is russian told me it´s not so well known, but it talks about "following and obeying the leader".

Do you know what it is or where I can get it? Just speaks english and swedish...

But hey Stef those russian women are so great. I just love them.

Never understood the fuzz around swedish women. yes they are blond and beautiful but so what? You get bored with stupid blonds. No I really prefer the tension with russian women, they really got a temper.

I don't speak any Slavic languages, even though I am an American of Croatian/Polish descent. I assume that answers your rather crude question in your subsequent post about me being a "BILLY YANK"? (never heard of that one before)

The BBC Series "The World At War" is ancient. It goes all the way back to the days when I had to go into "Gender Conflict Resolution" over my extreme attraction to the little PINK Italian Unit counters in AFRIKA KORPS, with the ORG SYMBOLS and all the division names that you find in the units stationed at SUD HQ in WIR: ARIETE, LITTORIO, TRIESTE, etc...at any rate around thirty years ago!

So, I see the Series in reruns all the time. I have even seen a commercial about purchasing the series on VHS, which is pretty cheap, in light of how old the Series is. If you call the one or two TV stations that there probably are in Sweden (he he), I'm sure it'll come around again soon, and then you can tape it for free!

I do believe you mean: "Never understood the BUZZ ABOUT Swedish women.", which would be the correct American style slang.

What you have written up there, is an entirely different subject, for which I am completely qualified and willing to discuss, on a number of different levels...but not on this board!

As far as Swedish and Russian women...I find them all beautiful, fascinating, and challenging.
