How Long to Play a Turn?
This game looks massive!
Any reports from the beta testers how long it takes to play a single turn in the overall campaign game? With all of that territory and all of the units, it looks like you could spend an entire evening playing a turn?

RE: How Long to Play a Turn?
I remember my father playing the original Eastern Front on our Atari computer - he'd be there for 10 - 12 hours playing at a time. I've tried not to emulate that with the current crop of Matrix games (but it is damn hard to resist - just one more turn!!!!).
I would expect the first few turns would be very time consuming, but that you could get into a groove after a while (though this is complete supposition on my part - not having seen the game yet).
Probably more so for the German player at the beginning, and more so for the Russian player later on.

Once you get going, as the German player, you can do a turn in 30 min. During the blizzard turns you can do them in 5 min. Not much to do but pray.[X(]

The first 2 turns are a bear, depends on how much you reorganize. Anywhere from 4 to who knows. As you get a handle on the game it flows alot quicker...

Hi all,
As Russian it would take 1-2 hours for each turn at the beginning... later when you (hopefully [;)]) create meaningful defensive position / line it takes less!
BTW, it is quite "stressful" as Russians in the beginning... there are so many "holes" and you have to "plug" them juggling what you have (and you don't have a lot)... [:)]

RE: How Long to Play a Turn?
I'm sure this is a redundant question...please pull up on the punches a little
can the AI be given control of certain fronts such as Army Group South?
or even let the AI run the 1st few turns and then the player steps in to "rescue" it?

No not really. I guess you could put the game on AI vs. AI and then stop the game and load it up as human Vs. AI but it's not really set up to do what your talking about. There are some things that the AI can do as far as air missions. I've posted some more on that in another thread.

RE: How Long to Play a Turn?
sometimes i did it with WIR to play the game from an interesting spot that was more difficult than the start of the scenario...if the AI was not doing that well after a few turns, I would grab control and see if I could restore the situation...
why would the game not be designed to do that?

Two questions:
- How does WITE play in comparison to TOAW or HPS Panzer Campaign games ?
- How many counters you got to consider (move) in average from turn second and up ?
RE: How Long to Play a Turn?
In a related note:
What is the size of the map in hexes?
How many hexes can you actually see on the screen?
Does it fill a wide screen monitor or does it fill a large square as does WitP?

RE: How Long to Play a Turn?
25,760 hexes total.
How many hexes on screen at once? That depends on your zoom level. I play on the next to most zoomed in during most testing and thus see an area that spans from Moscow to Bryansk, for example. This is 21 hexes wide. At the most zoomed out, you will see nearly all of the map.
I view the game in complete wide-screen on a 23" monitor.

no, it's not a fixed resolution as in WITP. Map fills all the screen without wide screen distortions.

I also like to do this so the game "start" for me is randomized.... giving one AI a bonus for the AI vs AI portion also makes it more interesting to play the disadvantaged side...

Haven't played the HPS games. As far as TOAW goes it's hard to say. You get a totally diffrent feel from the the game. I haven't counted the counters, maybe 200 or more for the Germans and a lot more for the Russians. Sorry I can't give you better answers.

it could also be a quick way to beta test later periods in the war by having the AI "quick" play a certain period and then test winter 41...or spring 42,,,without taking valuable tester time re-playing the first period of the conflict...
