*** Fighter can’t catch Bombers***

Boy-oh-boy the JFBs are going to love this. [:D]

I thought the cruise speed of the B-17 was around 220 knots. You couldn't fly a loaded bomber at top speed.

Does the message refer only to the speeds of the aircraft, or is it also to do with altitude difference and the amount of warning the CAP received?

I think it means everything: altitude, relative speeds, climb ability, warning time. It supposedly should say at what distance the bombers were detected.
