Good Discussion!
IMO a significant fraction of what is published in the literature today includes errors, ommissions, or is a rehash of something already published, often by the same author.
Yes I have a Ph.D. (chemistry) and yes I am on the editorial board of a scientific journal.
Oh, and I worked in the real world for 20 years before I moved to the ivory tower.
Good day.

Sounds like the action of a typical Phillies fan. [:D]
Up until last year you needed a sense of humor to be a Phillies fan! lol

Yeah, ouch, definitely can relate then. Well at least we're not Bengals fans, there is true pain.

No truer words than those have been written in these fora.

I think being a Vikings fan puts me on the same circle of the inferno[X(]
Next Sheytan will demonstrate how Nostradamus predicted soy would lead to chrysanthemum petals encompassing a placid ocean only to be tossed aside by a sudden fungal bloom.

Hmm, food for though...thanks for the idea!

Being a Mets Fan, shouldn't you be throwing yourself under the wheels of a subway train this weekend? [:D]

A much quicker demise than hurling one's self from the bluffs into the Missouri.

Why would I do that. The Royals may lose a lot, but they don't spend 100's of millions to do it...., so I can actually afford to have a few beers at a game in my $9.00 seat. And as I was born in St. Louis and have been a lifelong Cardinals Fan, why would I want to commit suicide anyway? [:D]

What an amazing picture!!!
It must be the product of detailed photographic manipulation aimed at psychological warfare. Either the Japanese were going to drop that by the millions over the West Coast with a title "All Your MacDonaldos Are Belong to Us", or that's the famed Japanese War Bonds: "15c Of a Yen - Payable as Hamburger When We Win".
Truly, Mandrake, a magician's piece. Cheers!

Sorry my friend, I was not clear. My only point was as a Mets fan better to go the subway demise than the slower and much less sure way in KC.
I too was born in St. Louis. I was a Cardinals fan up till 1969 when I was moved to NJ. If I knew then what I know now I may have stayed faithful to the redbirds. Have to say though, I still like to see the Cardinals do well and they are always my second choice to win the NL pennant. My first clear memory of baseball was that masterful performance by Bob Gibson in the '67 Series.
Other than my younger sister and myself my whole extended family is from KC, still have an aunt in KC and one in Lees Summit.

To get this back on topic [:)]---
Do you know how many quintals (1/10th of a metric ton) of Soy were produced in a given year c. 1941 in the area represented by the AE map?

74,824,040 quintals - 7,482,404 metric tons.
Of this 464,000 metric tons came from Manchuria in 1940...rising to 628,900 tons by 1944.
As an added bonus did you know -
In Japan, the soybean forms the basis of the salty miso paste which in turn is made into bean soup, misoshiru, also known as miso soup. The bean soup, together with rice and pickles, is/was the standard breakfast throughout Japan, and is eaten as part of dinner by millions of Japanese.

My first clear memory of baseball was that masterful performance by Bob Gibson in the '67 Series. All is forgiven. My earliest actual "still can remember" memories are from the wild ride in '64. The Phillies collapse, facing Mantle & Maris and all the NY hype, Ken Boyer's grand slam and Roger Craig's remarkable performance to hold the lead in Game 4, and Gibson's "heart" in Game 7.
Other than my younger sister and myself my whole extended family is from KC, still have an aunt in KC and one in Lees Summit. Lee's Summit is just down the road..., I live about 2 miles east of Kaufman Stadium.

Oh great!, now I have a hunger for the 12cent fries that went along with the 15cent burgers. Nickel 12 oz cokes with REAL Cuban cane sugar, fries that were aged and then cooked in lard, 15 cent burgers made from fresh meat; all paid for by picking up 16 glass bottles on the side of the road and redeeming them at the local pony keg, using that money to purchase a meal at McDonalds in Illinois where the sign stated "over 1 million sold"
I shouldn't have read this thread, now my taste buds will not tolerate what currently constitutes fast food for a month and I already can't stand my wifes cooking, so it looks like drinking a case of beer and reminiscing about the difference between a black & white and a color TV was green cellophane.

What is it with Treespider and Termite2 interrupting a Baseball discussion? What kind of forum do you think this is? [:D]
