Naval Support
I moved this here from the main board as the questions related more to modding.
Are there guidelines used in adding Naval Support to some of the bases and not for others? I would like to add some to places like Astoria and Oak Harbor that have repair yards but no Naval Support. However, I would like to follow a historical basis or guideline if there are any. How about garrisons?

RE: Naval Support
Just rule-of-thumb guidelines. Places where there were real live, honest to gosh, Navy bases, Naval shipyards, places tied into Naval Districts. Basically NSY kind of places.ORIGINAL: Buck Beach

As to how we placed BFs with NavSup: Diego and LA because they were Navy Bases and tied into 11th Naval District; Mare and SFO because they were Navy Bases, had big Naval shipyards, and tied into 12th Naval District; Seattle (Bremerton) was Navy Base, Naval Shipyard, and 13th Naval District.
Because the Allies don’t use Naval or Merchant, Shipyards, certain places with significant construction capacity were selected to have an amount of Repair Shipyard capacity. However, these were places that were not associated with Naval Bases, per se, and would not be expected to have a significant Naval Support infrastructure.
Places with Repair Yards, but no BFs with NavSup, include:
Tacoma – big construction yard, but no Navy base, etc, so no BF with NavSup
Portland – big construction yard, but no Navy base, etc,
Stockton – small construction yard, but no Navy base, etc,
Astoria – small construction yard, but no Navy base, etc,
Oak Harbor – small construction yard, but no Navy base, etc.
Not to say we got it right, just that this is how it was done.

I understand. How about the garrisons?
RE: Naval Support
Again, it was rule-of-thumb. Andrew Brown implemented the structured fortifications. But there aren’t any ‘garrisons’ per se. 14th Army put people here and there for a week, or a month; some of the Naval Districts had Marine detachments; but there were no real ‘garrisons’, except for the Army Coastal Defense Arty in the structured fortifications, and places like Presidio, and Camp Pendleton.ORIGINAL: Buck Beach
I understand. How about the garrisons?
So you will see the Colombia River defenses at Astoria (but no BF with NavSup); Puget Sound defenses at Oak Harbor (again, no BF with NavSup); Port Hueneme defenses (with a whole lot of nothing else).
There was no need for ‘garrisons’ at any of these places, neither in-game, nor irl. Anywhere was always close to somewhere else with a bunch of bad juju hanging about. So, I wouldn’t set up ‘garrisons’ for places, here and there, but that’s just me. Besides, there are a ton of ‘mobile’ Base Forces that can be deployed as ‘garrisons’ or ‘NavSup’, as you desire, or require.
Again, not to say we got it right, just that this is how it was done

RE: Naval Support
While I have your ear, can you explain all these asterisks on this BF:

Excuse me not a base force but just the same, if you can and will you explain what these represent?

RE: Naval Support
Those were the BFs with NavSup I was talking about in post #2. Having some garrison squads in those BFs, didn't seem all that relevant.ORIGINAL: Buck Beach

Just an abstract take.
RE: Naval Support
I hate to shine you, but there's lots of different reasons and I could spend ages explaining all of them, for all the different combinations. But they are in the Manual, so I'll have to send you there. Sorry.ORIGINAL: Buck Beach

I believe those "*" means that the unit and or device is static and cannot be moved.

Thanks Brum, I'll check around at some others for consistency.

Hi Buck. Sorry, was very busy today. Anyway, there's a thread about 'asterisk' that tells about some of them. Best I can do just now.

OK problema, I had already run the coarse of frustration at that thread. I will just have to cool it until things get way calmer here on the board.

Check out in the editor for Devices #1146, 1147 and 1150. You will see that the checkbox "Static" is checked.
