Withdrawing Ships

Post by Chet Guiles »

I'm sure I may be an idiot, but I can't get a clear picture of where to send a ship to withdraw it from the game on schedule. The manual (p. 139) says "To withdraw a ship, the ship must be off-map or at any national home base except the NEI and PI.

Are the "national home bases" only those listed on p. 134 which talks about the situation when Production is turned off and partial maps are being used, or can we use home bases like Pearl Harbor, Karachi or Bombay, etc. (Brit ships could go to Karachi in WitP for instance!) Is there a different list of "Home Bases"?

Maybe there needs to be a clarification, because some ships appear to be located where any off-map location gives a bright red fuel supply saying you can't get there from here. I couldn't declare one ship to have England as a home base -- it said I had to pick something "nearer" but it's a bloody British ship and England is where p. 134 says I have to send it.

I hate to lose a lot of VP's because I can't get rid of these ships. Maybe should have turned the withdrawl option off, but too late...

Thanks.

The "national home base" locations are in the manual and there are only a couple of the for each side IIRC. Use ANY off-map base and it works. As to the fuel shortage, I play this very conservatively and start them toward an off-map base (as Allies) at least 30 days in advance because it can take that long to get there due to the need to stop and refuel

Sydney works too.

As a side note it is very annoying the way withdrawals work, I have no PP left by forgeting withdrawal of two AP and a LOT of aviation squadrons that were sitted in US., A special screen/advice at turn begin would be very wellcomed...or even managing them as the refits, ocurring automatically if you set the option.
