Japanese Torpedo Boats At Pearl Harbor?

Post by Top Cat »

It's early March 1942 in my game against the Japanese AI.

Nearly choked on my coffee when I saw a combat between 4 Japanese Torpedo boats vs. my ASW destroyer patrol at Pearl Harbor.[X(]

Think the Japanese have developed teleport technology!

They were last seen heading in a North Easterly direction, presumably paddling back to the Japanese mainland.

Cheers

Do you have the save from the turn or two before? The devs might be interested in seeing this one!

Yes the IJN get super Pt's now, they can sail the deep blue! [:D]

US Brits etc suck. They sink 30 seconds after leaving port.

Japanese Torpedo Boats are in fact small destroyers (600 tons).
So, yes, they are super PT's [:D]

Actually, they were the vessels that "Torpedo Boat Destroyers" were designed to sink... In the Second World War they were used primarily as short-ranged escorts in coastal waters. Showing up off Hawaii is a pretty big leap for this kind of ship.

Jap "Torpedo boats" are pretty much the same as American DE's.

Saves would be good, unfortunly i didnt have any. Sounds much like my Destroyer appeares magicly at Midway incident. Some similarities in the 2 incidents.
The destroyer "just happened" to arrive in 1 of the only 2 turns during the first 8 months i had a TF at Midway and a TF is involved here too.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

Hardly the same. Less tonnage and fewer weapons. They're the closest the IJN had, though.

Amen! DE's were designed for convoy work in the N. Atlantic and were much larger and more robustly constructed. Jap Torpedo Boats came out of coast defense thinking..., more like a larger, steam-powered PT with a couple of deck guns.

The scary part for me was that they got in and out completely undetected when I've got more planes on search at Pearl than just about the rest of the map combined.

Anyway the 2 battles they fought were all "nil all" draws.

Don't have a save unfortunately.
