What's Windows FX?
Anyway what's your resolution?  I heard that it doesn't work to all types of resolutions.  When it auto-scales, it gets rid of the window.

1. Right Click on War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe and select Create Shortcut. You can place the new shortcut on your dektop if you wish.
2. Right Click the Shortcut and select Properties.
The line Target is already highlighted.
Should look like this:
"J:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe"
Now add at the very end of the line the parameter for windows mode, which is -w.
Should now look like this:
"J:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -w
Click OK and you're done.
Now double click your new shortcut and WitP:AE should start in windowed mode.
Note: the resolution is fixed and cannot be changed (neither can it be changed in Full Screen Mode (which is the default).

PS: What do you mean with Windows FX?

The FX was a brain fart, I am entitled at my age. Should have read XP.

Thanks for the answer but what I am trying to find out is what my screen should look like with -w vs what I see normally.

I put the -w on the command line and see no difference.

What is the screen resolution that you use? It has to be higher than 1024 x 768 to see the effect.

This is what it looks like for me.

Be careful to put the modifier in  (and use to run) the quick acces, not in the "normal" executable (so no windowed menu for you) [8|]

BTW to me windowed mode is not what I expected, the resultant window can not be resized, and it appears tiny if you use a high resolution. More annoying, to scroll the map you have to take the pointer to the edger of the screen, not the window [:(]

Be sure to add a space between path and cmd line parameter. "...."SPACE-w

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -w
Witp-AE
AeAi…AeAi …AeAi…Long live AeAi.
