How does one...

Post by hbrsvl »

Hi-... execute a fast transport mission? I have a Brit ENG unit I'd like to take off an island-size 1 port.

I have 3 Brit DDs at the port. I changed mission to "fast transport", but the "load troops, supplies,"etc. are grayed out. DDs have plenty of fuel, etc.

How do I load the troops?

Thanks, Hugh Browne

Unlike WITP , not every ship is capable of carrying troops. On the allied size, almost nothing is. You need to go back into your manual, and look up the fast transport table. I seem to recall that their is not much available except for APD's, which are converted destroyers. Sorry. [:)]

Well, that explains alot. I'd been trying to do that too, stumped also.

Hugh-the workaround I have been doing for this is to ferry the troops back to a 'real' port with amphibious aircraft. A Catalina squadron does a good job of picking up these loose ends.

i have also found fast transport (with the correct ships) does not seem to work if you give them 'pick up orders'. i posted this before but had no joy in responses

Fast Transport "pick up" has been working for me.

Not sure why, but there were always people in stock (WITP) would said it never worked, yet for me it always worked.

As Allies, in AE, I use AMCs for FT TF, maybe with a DD or CL. Useful to run in/out of places like Milne Bay in the Guad scenario.

Do DD's or Cl's still work? I've not been able get them to load up. And isn't a AMC an Auxilary Merchant Cruiser, a AP (or ocean liner ) with a few guns? [&:]

Negatif, Allied DD and CL don't have troop (or cargo) capacities, at least not very often, hence the use of the AMC as the troop or supply transport component of the FT TF while the CL/DD are the "escorts". Yes we use AMC to mean "Armed Merchant Cruiser" - and on both sides these seem to be mostly useful as fast transports - at least that is how I use them!
