You can do, and dont need to take supply with them. The cargo penalties are 3 cargo speces for each troop if you are Japanese, or 6 if you are allied.

Rule 6.3.2.3 shows that troops/support squads cost 1x load cost in troop spaces. The load cost comes from the device details in the database. Crossloading into Cargo space in an xAK (from table 6.3.2.5) shows 3x load cost for Japs and 6x load cost for Allies (we like the little luxuries [:D]).

For example, lets say a Brit Inf Squad has a load cost of 10. Putting 10 squads in the troop space of an xAP takes up 100 capacity (1x10x10). Put the same 10 squads in the Cargo space of an xAK will take up 600 capacity (6x10x10).

Re the supply if your doing Transport TF with strategic mode of LCU, no supply needs to be loaded. If using Amphib TF with combat mode for LCU the load process will automatically allocate some space to supplies (equivalent to 3 days combat supply)

Its completely clear to me - so much so that I have trouble figuring out how else to explain it.

If a ship has 300 troop capacity, then it has 300 bunks plus messing and sanitary facilities for 300 men. It can obviously load 300 men and carry them off somewhere.

If a ship has 300 cargo capacity it has cargo holds big enough to carry 300 tons of supplies. Instead of supplies the cargo holds could have temporary bunks added, plus messing and sanitary facilities. It takes the equivalent space of 6 tons of supply to carry one man, so 300 cargo capacity could carry 50 men.

Actually Don I understand it completely now and it does make sense, was just being cynical which comes from being married 3 times[:D]

I am assuming then that the conversion is just to make it more efficient to ship troops around using AK's
