Gabel-the tester scenario

Post by PrinzHenrich »

Because nothing is going on I made small scenario, where Austrians should in 90% win the battle. Of course it is possible to lose the game - just choose the prussians. Good fun killing Prussians.

Fish in a barrel... [:D]

Made for a nice of a change from working on my frontal assault skills in the "Killing Fields", "Sterbohol" and "The Gap" scenarios... too bad the AI is utterly inept at utilizing the defensive terrain features, and in fact was so confused by the attack from multiple directions that it had all its units facing away from the nearest enemy :/

The scenario is made with follow idea
1) Macquire sholud first attacked Gabel alone
2) Wullfen and Arenberg sholud came late (we give prussians chance[;)])
3) AI vs AI test was like in history plan

I'll try that, and see how it goes. Though I don't think I did more with Wulffen and Arenberg than deploy their artillery initially, and that was when the AI already lost it, and turned all its units away from Macquire, whose grenadiers were only 1-2 hexes away.

Edit: Attacked just with Macquire's command, and it took me 18 turns to take the village (due to 5-6 failed activations). Prussians put up a very spirited defense, I only managed to rout their remaining units in turn 20, and did not manage to bring them below their withdrawal level.
So a human defender should be able to hold the village against a human attacker, since the AI defense, while not bad, was still clearly suboptimal.

I'd suggest turning the other two Austrian commands into reinforcements, so they ony show up in later turns.

I'm referring to the "reinforcement turn" tab in the unit properties, which allows you to specify in which turn the unit appears on the field. Only used in the Hochkirch stock scenario iirc.

And the scenario, with Arenberg and Wulffen as reinforcements. Arenberg shows up in turn 8, Wulffen only in turn 10, since he has a faster approach (columns + road).

Edit: I'm up for a PBEM game, Kugelspammer@gmail.com.

Ok. Nice thank you,I will use this option in future
I corrected few thinks.Wulffen andArenberghave to low comand rating to do anything in the battle, so I increase both to 6, I also give AI chance to win,to increase turn battle to 24.I think it is enough. Rest without chance.

Should probably be noted that infantry in this scenario cannot form square. I just found out the hard way in a PBEM last night... (through a very well-played move by PH that I don't want to take anything away from, he's handling the Prussians very well, and I'm making tons of mistakes that I shouldn't be making, partially due to lack of an undo function in PBEM, which I have yet to get used to).

Edit: *slaps self and proceeds to eat more humble pie*
The lack of squares should've been painfully obvious from my own editor screenshots that I took earlier...

As I said, it's all good, and I don't want to take away from your playing - the lack of square may have facilitated the outcome, but you were giving me a truckload of trouble with the Hussars anyways. :)

I'm probably taking this way too seriously, too - first FtG MP game (and first HnM PBEM) and all that, and of course knowing that I can't lose, anything but a perfect win will feel somewhat unsatisfactory. ;)

Sure, I'm game for other scenarios as well, Reichenberg looks like it could be a lot of fun
... but I'd also like to keep playing this one for a bit, I want to see how much damage I can do before the reinforcements arrive...

You better think how many soldiers you lost before they come[:D]
YOu couldn't do that, the reinforcement already appeared in one battalion strenght [;)]
