"Wide" straits

Post by Jonathan Pollard »

Is there any way to find out other than through some kind of testing process whether or not Singapore along with some other hex and Merak/Oosthaven are considered "wide" straits as defined on p. 39?

Also, is it possible for CD guns to shoot through a hexside in a strait to hit the other hex, or must the ships be in the same hex for CD guns to fire in a strait?

I'm not on the naval team but do not go through Singers, Bataan or HK if Japanese and still held by allies. I don't think you can shoot through a hex if so it's the first I've heard of it.

What is needed is a hex overlay showing the straits that are defined, but adding this feature has yet to make it to the top of the priority list. In the meantime, if it looks like a strait on the map, treat it as one.

There is a list of "narrow" straits in the manual, but that is a poor substitute for a hex overlay showing all narrow and wide straits on the game map itself.

No, they only shoot at targets in the same hex.
