When IJN AA guns upgrade

Post by guctony »

Can somebody tell me when IJN AA guns upgrade. In my recent play I am getting chewed by planes.

I will find a large enough Bunker and put all the ships in it till they got upgraded. And wait for the divine wind to blow......[:@][:@][:@][:@]

Do they upgrade? I don't see anything to indicate that. The manual states the IJN AA Fire multiplier stays constant at 0.75. USN improves to multiplier 1.10 (July 42 - Dec 42), then 1.25 1943 and after.

So, I guess the British & ANZAC ships remain at face value throughout the game :)

Of course, there are ship upgrades, but I don't know if there is a table documenting when that happens. About the only way I know of is to watch the armament over time (should be a better way to find that info)

The amount of small AA guns will increase over time on the JAP ships, but I don't know when this will happen, only guessing 1943.

Upon further review ... I created a SCTF with 1 ship - CA Chicago (Northampton Class) in 5/42, the stats match what I can bring up in the editor (Flak 118).  Interestingly, the editor has a caption over that column, "just for show".   in 6/44, the Chicago has Flak value 197, and weapon C has been replaced - was 16 1.1/75" AA, Now 18 40mm.  118 x 1.25 is not 197, so somehow the weapon upgrade happens apart from the flak multiplier - but either is is buried in the code or is stored in a table the editor does not display.

Since I'm the one who added the flak value to the "Ship Class" sheet of the editor back then (i.e. 5 years ago), here's my clarification:

By "just for show," I meant "you can't change the flak value simply by entering a number here." (Instead, you have to modify the number of weapons and the type of weapons installed on the ship.)

In the case of CA Chicago, here's why you're seeing a flak value of 197 in the game: the weapon upgrade. To see this, change Weapon 3 to 18 x 40mm AA, and the flak value in the editor should increase to 158. And 158 x 1.25 = 197.5, which is clearly rounded down to the nearest integer.

Excellent - thanks for the info! So do you know the mechanics of ship upgrades in Pacwar? Is the data in the game file (I'm guessing it is, but I don't see a tab for it). My guess is the data is in the file but the editor does not have a tab to show it. Any ideas if that is correct?

As I haven't played this game for years, I'm afraid that I can't answer that question. However, my best guess is that the data you're looking for is in the saved file. To see if this is true, load the June 1944 game file in the editor and see if the weapons for Northampton Class CA were upgraded (i.e. the flak value increases from 118 to 158). If so, then my guess is that the default values in the editor were based on that of OBC41 at the start of the game.
