971,900 FUEL POINTS AT CHRISTMAS ISLAND

Post by racndoc »

1/14/42.............Christmas comes late at Christmas Island

My first big tanker fleet is on the way to Australia with nearly 200,000 fuel but along the way I drop off some AOs and TKs with about 30,000 fuel at Christmas Island. Now I suddenly have some 971,000 fuel points at Christmas Island. My tankers have all been given orders to stop unloading and start loading fuel and I want to see if the fuel stockpile continues to grow.

I've seen this with both ships and bases!

It's impossible to check every single base and ship each turn, I don't think you will ever get a pre-turn save for something like this. Someone needs to create a debug version with a built in check to see if (supplies/fuel/etc) grow more then 500,000 for each base/ship per turn and let it run in a AI vs. AI game.

A simple game option will allow saves of every turn. Any player who wants to help and detects the issue could simply go back a few turns to find the save that would make solving the issue easy.

files:

I think for a more thorough test, I'd need to set up TK's going to a small base and offloading to see if it is an overflow error.

Was that after the disbandment of a Convoy? That would explain Cape Town...

For what it's worth, I save every game turn before doing the "end turn". Disk space is cheap! A suggestion that works for me is to start saving the save games further down the list, e.g., starting at 100. It's in all of our best interests to see the bugs squashed, so I'd encourage others to do the same. Plus, then when you notice a problem, you can do a little binary search through your save files and easily pin-point when it actually occurred.

Sorry gentlemen, I dont have prior saves and I hadnt even checked the fuel levels at Christmas for a few days before 1/14/42 so I dont know when the fuel levels started growing.

However, now it is 1/18/42 and the fuel supply is down to 826,000. My TKs and AOs are too large to dock at Christmas so they haven't loaded any fuel...but my AKs have loaded about 25,000 fuel ponts. That means that Christmas Island has lost around 120,000 fuel due to spoilage.

WITP before it - and AE afterwards have always had at least a few situations where "overflow" or "underflow" happened. We would like them to be non-existent - they never have been and maybe they never will be - but each such situation is easy to address with a save - and virtually impossible to address without one. We are happy to address those for which saves are available.
