Interestingly the fog of war seems to overstate enemy warship losses, but massively understate enemy transport losses.

Did you remain in a pre-patched state for this game?

I noticed that when I started a game with the Beta, it slowed the tempo considerably since troop movement to the front are limited to SWPac and SoPac units. In pre-patch, I moved a number of units without changing HQs. Now, there just aren't enough PPs to change enough AusCom and SoPacRA units to frontline HQs until November or so.

We applied the hotfix patch soon as it came out.

We're going to have another go, but we're waiting for the official patch to come out. Same scenario, same sides, Erik wanted another go as Japan now he's more familiar with his units and their capabilities.

Might be interesting to compare the two.

The reason why the tempo was so fast in this game was two crushing CV victories, which made bold aggressive moves possible. After the Milne Bay battles the only limitations on the Allied advance were logistics, really. I don't think PPs would have limited it greatly. The main Allied attacks all involved the same units - 2 Aussie elite brigades, 1st USMC division, 2nd USMC division and 2/3rds of Americal division. And I wasn't actually seriously on the offence until November anyway.

The other factor is that Erik was quite timid with his ground units I think, leaving a lot of them in Truk. If I was Japan and facing an Allied invasion of Shortlands, I'd really commit and make him pay for every day of operations so far from Allied bomber support.
