air power

Post by bo »

Good game gentlemen but I am wondering are the air forces of the axis and allies a little too powerful, not a complaint just wanted to know how experienced players felt or any players. I dont think many or any armies were destroyed by an airforce in WW2 [could be wrong] I am wiping out too many units with air power do I have some settings wrong or is that just the way the game is.

This has been discussed in regard to Road to Victory and Time of Wrath. With the game scale as it is you might want to think of your use of air in focused attacks as representing air power in agregate. I do not use air atacks on land units much myself, but I know they have real utility in special situations, when you really need a hex. The AI is crazy for air attacks and I learned pretty quickly that they are not much of a threat. I enjoy waging an air war of attrition, using my air units against the enemy air units till I have comand of the skies, and the enemy is drained of PP. It does not always work that way, but often enough.

Certainly air power, especially tactical air, was much valued in the Second World War, and this is reflected in the game.

It seemed to me in 1.50 that the power of air units against ground forces had been toned down a lot, and almost too much. Air units now take a lot of damage when doing ground attacks - so costly that it's rare that I use them against ground units except for really critical tasks.

I agree with GW, and would add that the air units in 1.52 have been changed so radically that you can't really make any generalisations at this point. Doom seems to think that they are going to push 1.52 out to public beta testing in the immediate future -- let's give it a week or so and see what develops.

Hi Michael thank you but I read the 1.50fix and maybe I missed it[about airpower], but anyway I am just blowing units away with my airpower seems too strong to me.

I downloaded fix 1.50a and now it seems to me that airpower is way more powerful than it was, I know Michael said that fix 1.52 would reduce the power of air strikes,I think that is what he said, but why did the programers make the airpower more formidable than it already was in the original game, dont get me wrong I am not Patton or any of the smart generals I need all the help I can get, you and your family would not sleep well if you knew I was at the head of the armed forces[>:] Air power should not be able to take out a well intrenched unit in a city but it does. Do hope this is fixed in the next patch, or if everyone likes the way airpower is then I guess I will have to live with it.
