Question on reinforcements

Post by Tomcat »

I'm trying to build up a base so that it has enough aviation support. I have two engineering units there and both of them are below their TOE in aviation support. I expect that over time they will receive reinforcements so that they will reach their TOE numbers for aviation support, but so far this is not happening. The base has good supply, and there are supposedly plenty of aviation support squads being built and put into service someplace. Any ideas why my units are not getting them? Thanks in advance for any help.

You HAVE turned replacements ON, right?

Amazingly that's one mistake I did not make, as far as I can tell. THe display of ground units shows Y for Rep for all units.

If you turn on replacements to ALL units, it will tend to fill rear area units first. Never, Never do this.

Ok, is there an easy way to control reinforcements for all units - set them to off and set them to on only for front line units, or is this a base by base effort?

Well, in the manual the only thing I recall seeing on the subject is that the "primary" base force will add more aviation support as the airbase size is increased. I don't know if having more planes there and being short on support makes any difference.

Tomcat,
For best results you have to micro-manage.

Dr Duh,
Only the AI units grow like that.

16.5 (page262): "Base Forces also receive replacements just as any ground unit does, but their expected full
strength level for the computer player can change during the game."

It works only for the AI.

Once you have your 'selected' units set to receive reinforcements, don't forget the supply requirement.
The rate at which reinforcements arrive is helped by the amount of supply in the base, over 20k seems to be the figure. Also other close by bases with over 20k supply helps too. If your units are on an island they will grow SLOWLY.

The moral of the story is to reinforce at mainland homebases BEFORE shipping units to the frontline.
