Any useful land combat routine?

Post by vlcz »

I´m making a few tries to found a correct routine/combination between combat modes to actually win land battles.

Before moving to the target, I try to calculate the enemy real force over there by recon missions. As troop number doesn´t seem a very definitive data (much of them are support and rear troops) I use to compare guns and vehicle numbers.

Then I advance ,using follow orders to avoid my quicker units being repulsed in detail

Once in the same hex I begin with Bombards, the most useful pat of which is actually see the Assault Value of the enemy and the odds with my own AV.

The next step depends entirely on that odds.

If > 3:1 I try a full shock attack, this is really having very good results.

If < 3:1 > 2:1 I use deliberate assault ( or > 1.5 if I loose patience). This is my main concern, as after a pair of days making steady advances (more losses in his side) usually things comes to the contrary, and I begin to be on the losing side, so time to bombard again (and usually defend with disorganized units, I don’t dare give a rest order in a combat hex).

In any other I keep bombarding, I only stop bombarding to defend when my own losses are being greater than the enemy, and attempt an attack (deliberate) when odds grow or (sometimes, as I feel they are without supply) when the enemy no more makes counterbattery.

At all cases I pair with aircraft in ground attack (swarms of Blen IV as my main probing ground is being burma-india border)

On a related subject, I am trying to encircle target hexes to avoid retreats (really only with a lonely unit in the only hex to wich enemy controls the hexside, is there a minimum force to block a retreat path? I fopund nothing on this in the rulebook but I feel strange encircling 2+ division with an underpowered battallion

I would like to read other player experiences/results and comments, specially on reserve orders, that I have yet to use.
