Seed question

Post by Panjack »

The random number generator is seeded at the start of a new game.

Does the random number generator get reseeded after that OR would it be the case that if you took an initial save of, say, scen 1 and played computer-vs-computer (or alternatively, played as a human but made no changes to anything) and ran it two times the EXACT same results would occur in both games through the end of the war?

Very sorry, but no looks under the hood.

Test findings are that if you just exit to the game main screen and keep reloading a savegame, you will get the same results. For different results, you must exit the game altogether and restart.

The seed is the same, but if you change orders or move units, etc, this could affect the order in which the randoms are used, and thus the results.
I have noticed on some occasions that AI games can differ in results of the same save. I haven't tracked it down, but there are situations in which the AI does seem to do things out of order from the previous turn.

RE_ITERATE: I am talking about AI games NOT PBEM.
