RE: Fabertong vs Speedy - a taste of things to come
Hi Capt........I have to admit, I was 'bricking it' when I saw my 'T' was being crossed......but pleased with the end result........Furataka has, btw, made port at Truk........
RE: Fabertong vs Speedy - a taste of things to come
Aug. 21-24th 1942...........
4 turns.......4 subs missing their targets.......4 subs hit by escorts and forced to retire.......one will probabaly sink......
Speedy is running daily Bombing missions over PM...his AV is going up...and mine down........I wish my reinforcements would march a bit quicker....
The real bad news is AAG - 1 returned to the Lunga area......and attacked shipping.......3 allied AKs were badly damaged........I lost 4 Zeros to his 7 Wildcats........but lost 22 Kates.....18 to A2A....the rest to flak..........AAG-1 will now return to Truk to rearm...and take on replacemnets......Speedy will know he has at least 12 days before I can return......and when I do....he may seek a carrier engagement.......as the new replacement pilots will lack the threat of the veterens now lost.......

RE: Fabertong vs Speedy - a taste of things to come
August 26th...........1942.....
A bad day for penguinkind.......once again SAG-3(Chokai, Aoba, Kinugasa, Tenryu and 3DDs).....under the command of Tanaka slipped into the Lunga anchorage.......first coming across a lone AK......which was sunk by Naval gunfire......
Then SAG-3 encountered a mixed allied cruiser force...reported to contain.....(New Orleans, San Francisco, Austrailia...the CL Boise and 6 DDs)......Tanaka once again allowed his 'T' to be crossed....with devastating results.......accurate Main battery fire from the Australia......badly damaged Chokai and Kinugasa...before we could fire a single shot........then Boise tagged Aoba.......who caught fire....the rest of the allied CA force joined in and in a short space of time Sank Chokai and Kinugasa and one of the escorting DDs.........the Allied ships were roporting only minor damage......
The remnents on SAG-3 made smoke and turned away........but as dawn came ......SBDs from Henderson....attacked and hit Aoba with 2x1000lbs bombs.......she is still limping home....but will probably sink...before Shortlands........
USS Gundgeon also sank an AKL near Kavieng........

RE: Fabertong vs Speedy - a taste of things to come
accurate Main battery fire from the Australia......badly damaged Chokai and Kinugasa...before we could fire a single shot........then Boise tagged Aoba
Sounds like the first encounter was Savo island, but this one was Cape Esperance.[:(] Gotta watch out for those Brooklyn-class "CL" types. And was Australia lucky, or does it have a high surface combat experience rating?
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

RE: Fabertong vs Speedy - a taste of things to come
Aug 27-30th 1942............
SAG -1 Hiei 4CA,2CL and 8 DDs........Bombarded Henderson field on the night of the 28th....with little result....but as the sun came up........the group spotted and destroyed a single AK......and then a tanker group consisting of 2 TKs and 2 DDs....all were sunk........but then the group encountered the same allied cruiser group that had done such damage to SAG - 3(see above)........once again the Allied Cas showed their teeth ....sinking 4 of my DDs........in response Hiei did sink the San Francisco......with Main Battery gunfire........most of my ships were low on ammo.....so we made smoke and turned back to Rabaul..........
Aoba made port after being badly damaged in the earlier engagement......but she is still not certain to be saved......
I lost an I-boat to Allied DDs south of Lunga....but hit CA Salt Lake with 1 torpedo......no damage reported......
Lost an APD off Shortland to SBDs.........Speedy is bombing my PM troops around the clock.....but a SNLF has joined the troops......bringing the AV of both sides to an even-ish 270.......
New arrivals at Truk mean much planning in the offing........

in response Hiei did sink the San Francisco......with Main Battery gunfire
Main battery? I would have expected by ramming.[;)]

She was almost out of ammo........so maybe next time Capt.ORIGINAL: Capt. Harlock

Sept. 1st and 2nd....1942........
Mass B-17 raids over the last 2 days have closed Lae airfield.....47 B-17s on the first day and 50 on the second......I failed to shoot any down...with my 20+CAp of A6M2s......I've withdrawn all but a handful of Zeros...left to harry the enemy as best they can......
Steven is trying to reiforce PM....and was hit hard by Betty's flying out of R....50 Betty escorted by 25 Zero's across two raids......AKs San Vincente, Manoa, Kohala, AP Largs Bay and AMC Manoora were sunk......I lost 4 Betty's....and traded 2 Zero escorts for 2 Kittyhawks......I'm sending them in again this turn....although I expect the CAP to be much rougher......
RE: Fabertong vs Speedy - a taste of things to come
Sept 3rd 1942............
The CAP was indeed much rougher over PM this turn.......I lost 12 Bettys.....and a couple of Zeros......for 3 allied fighters........I did hit an AP....but damage seemed light.......this meant that Steven has been able to reinforce......bugger.....
Worse than that.....the picket subs I've placed to the SE of Milne Bay....reported 2 large TFs including BBs and CAs approaching the area.......my MB Invasion force is 4 days out.......I had hoped these pickets would have picked up the allies reacting to the Invasion........but thye are already on the scene.......hmmm what to do......for now the TF will continue.....but may not advance to contact.
On a lighter note I-16 was depth charged for what seemed like hours on end......but no hits were scored......

RE: Fabertong vs Speedy - a taste of things to come
Sept 4th-6th......
On the 4th I detached AAG-1 from the Invasion TFs and told them to move on the Allied TFs around Milne Bay.......and now the CR for the 6th.....

RE: Fabertong vs Speedy - a taste of things to come
The upshot of the above combat report is that Steven is having a breather of a couple of days to digest the results......on the face of it Steven obviously feels this is a defeat.......and a fair amount of disappointment with the results.......after all he had 4 fleet carriers to my 2 and a half.......he lost one and had another damaged......to my CVL being damaged (she should make port)........
But if you look deeper.......I feel this was a victory for him in the long term.......I lost over 100 aircraft........AAG -1 has only 8 servicable bombers remaining ..........and only 12 Bettys now left at R. So no chance of using air power to stop him reinforcing for at least 10 days.
In short.....my teeth have been pulled........he has reinforced Milne Bay and PM.......and I fear that any chance of me winning this scenario has probably gone....
AAG-1 is returning to R.....to drop of the damaged CVL......and then on to Truk for a refit......I have two SAGs, one each heading for MB and Lunga.......and an Invasion TF with 400+ AV on board.....with no where to go.......hmmm.....what to do next?

I can't say that I blame him. Among other things, you shouldn't have even a dozen Betties left. The "flying lighters" were engaged by almost four times their number in Wildcats -- that strike should have been butchered to the last plane. Looks like some more tweaking for the A2A combat engine is in order.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

Hi Capt........I don't blame him either(sp?).........and I clearly got the luck of the 'roll'.......but am intrigued by the new A2A system.........the UBER-CAP thingy was a bane to both sides in old WitP......but I think the whole Betty thing isn't the big 'Bugbear' for Steven this turn...more like the fact that 60+ bombers got through my CAP......and failed to kill anything.......maybe EXP.?
However .......I do stand behind the Idea......that in the long run....this was and is an Allied victory.
RE: Fabertong vs Speedy - a taste of things to come
Yep, those pilots will be impossible to replace. I just had my Betties waxed in my Guad game with USS America. Forgot to set the range correctly and they took off into the teeth of his CAP....using bombs. [8|]
No hits of course and my Betty fleet is toast.

RE: Fabertong vs Speedy - a taste of things to come
Posting a CR again.....which is rare for me........
But it had some excitement! Letting IJN surface forces get within 1,000 yards of a CV -- the Americans are getting sloppy.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

RE: Fabertong vs Speedy - a taste of things to come
Sept 8th and 9th 1942.......
On the 8th Speedy's carriers moved away....south of Milne Bay........and I lost some more Bettys......I then sent a SAG in on the transports in MB......and here once again is a CR.......I would post screenies....but my capture tool seem not to be working.

More blood on the water....the loss of the transports should hurt Steven......but I'm still at a loss as to how to take any of the key bases......will keep thinking.

RE: Fabertong vs Speedy - a taste of things to come
Sept 10th, 11th and 12th............1942.........
Several quiet turns after all the bloodletting............B-17 still bombing target in NG on a daily basis......
SAG - 4 (1CA and 2 DDs)rolled into MB and sank a Lone AP unloading there.......and I lost another APD near Shortlands to SBDs.......Tass is getting very hard to resupply.....
Myoko will sink next turn..........from earlier injuries.....a DD is standing by to collect survivors........
Shokaku.....is almost to Truk....if she doesn't bump into any subs.....she will survive.......but will be out of this battle for the duration.....

Good work by your surface units -- but Perkins showed some surprising fight.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

Hi Capt......it's true......the 'boys done good'............although Myoko did sink from her wounds.......
Sept 13-18th 1942......
All quiet....well except for B-17 raids all over PNG......supply is now low in these areas......and my APDs are working hard to get some in .....Speedy is reinforce-ing PM but I have no drop tanks......for my escorts....so the Bettys remain stood down.......
One of the main things to note is that Enterprise showed up in the sunk ships list.......I'm not across the new FOW in AE.....does this mean she is really gone?
If so then in 16 days time when Junyo arrives........I'll attack .......I'm still thinking MB as the best target.......
One big mistake to note.....is I haven't built a fighter strip on Shortlands....(trying to save supply)...and now I wish I had......as soon I'll start running some bombardment TFs into Lunga......and would love a bit of cover.......

Sept 19-22nd 1942............
I've lost 2 subs to ASW TFs in the last few turns......mostly in shallow water trying to get at Steven's Transports at PM..........
Unleashed my Bettys this turn........20 Bettys(out of the 45 deployed at R....and 32 A6M2 escorts .......I lost 1 Zero and 5 Bettys.....but hit one AP....the Adelong...she was reported sunk........
