Game breaking Italian STP loss rate

Post by willgamer »

Patched to 1.60, with the Malta event disabled (see bug thread for details). [8D]

Italy concentrated their entire fleet in the Central Med: BBs-4, CA-22, SS-25 and 1 transport.

Africa (Tripoli) required 36 supply. The Allies sunk 33 of 36 with 5 ships! WTH kind of convoying is that! [:@]

To add insult to injury, the transport was attacked. It appeared with an escort of 6 subs. [X(] Again, WTH kind of convoying is that. [8|]

Currently, Africa appears to be as safe from AXIS aggression as the South Pole. [:D]

I'd say, save that game, zip it up, and post it here. I hope the developers fix that kind of ridiculous result.

We had a similar result in my current PBEM game, which is still 1.50. In that one, the entire Italian transport fleet was destroyed in one turn. Kind of put a real damper on the Italian push into Egypt. I was thinking that the issue was addressed for 1.6, but obviously not.

Won't do any good. The loss procedures are randomly triggered.

I also remember something like this happening under 1.50, so I hope it gets some attention for the next patch.

Willgamer, you are fully correct in that this is a bit overdone. I am glad somebody else has picked this one up. See here for my initial post: tm.asp?m=2203167

As temporary fix, you can also reduce the amount of convoy damage a single ship can inflict (both the max and min). For the mod go to consts.csv in your campaign folder and look at lines 226 - 229.

Overall the damage is added up randomly out of those max/min values. The turn averaged overall loss is not quite that terrible as these numbers seem to indicate as your convoys are not detected/intercepted every turn. Still, if you use your full contingent of STP in one turn the Italian has no way of recovering this loss quickly.
